Have the rules changed for naming a recruit in the media?

Was listening to OTB. Jay was on and he told TBob that he had to recruit a kid from the Chicago area once he moved there. He named the kid though. I always thought you couldn’t do that?

There are rules and there is etiquette. not sure where the line draws. Also I am not sure what applies to an uncommitted prospect versus a committed one.
I remember Gerry Dinardo calling out Kevin Faulk in his introductory presser... at least I think I do. Getting old!

I believe that once a recruit has signed with a school, it's ok to acknowledge that you recruited him/her at one time. Before that is definitely taboo.

If we're talking baseball recruits, they've already signed. You can discuss and name signees. You cannot, by name, mention recruits or commits.

Not sure why the rule still exists if it does. Social media let's everyone see who's recruiting who, who's talking to who, so forth and so on. Literally sites dedicated to those same kids and paid "professionals" posting articles with unfounded rumors and how much money some of them are making. Yet thou shall not speak their name. It's an outdated rule.

My recollection is that he said that the first place was going, or he was immediately heading to, was Carencro, and we all knew what that meant. But I’m old too!
