I don't think we need 3 DB's in the final four slots.
I would point out that there are 4-6 DB on the field on every play and there are no DB in the first 21 slots.
I would strive to take 4 DB each year.

Joiner looks meh to me. He's big, similar to how Jalen Hurd was, but doesn't have the power.
Who cares about him being rated higher? Soso Jamabo was rated as a 5 star and the #2 RB in 2015. He was coveted by all the big name schools outside of LSU (because we had guys like Guice and Brossette). He hasn't done shite at UCLA.
LSU doesn't need two true RBs. With Curry and Brossette, you have two true RBs. With Helaire you have a very underrated starter who is built like MJD that has tons of strength. Provens is a change of pace back.
We need to look towards 2019 for the future stars.

watch this highlight. LINK Pretty average.
I like his measurables but he has a lot to work on. His tape is just not that impressive to me. I would not take him over Chase, Goodrich, Joseph or Surtain. If we had another scholly he would be next in line. We will put all our eggs in the 2019 rb basket.

I agree with Bert and boodro. I've stated in every one of these threads the same thing. People want him to be what he has not shown. I'd take any back already on roster and nearly any other back in Louisiana/MS this year first. For a back with those measurables, there are new long runs, no yards after contact, lack of broken tackles, and no speed based on the film I've seen. Could be wrong, but my eyes are telling me his offer from Bama in not commitable offer. He needs a ton of work including more strength and conditioning that any other back we've had.
I just don't see the film matching the ranking. Maybe he's holding back on the field on the film I've seen, but I would not want to kick out any of the other targets to take him this year.

This is incorrect. Gage literally slammed his gargantuan nuts into Fitzpatrick's helmet leaving him with a traumatic brain injury.

Hell Pooka made more people miss and broke more tackles. Just not seeing the film match the myth.

Blasphemy! Fournette coming out of high school was once in a decade type of back, can joiner become that in college absolutely but id says 99% chance of being a good back and a 1% chance of being a fournette caliber back, not a knock on him fournette was blessed with borderline super human genetics

Just watched a bunch of highlights.
-Pros: He has great vision, Great balance, one cut runner not too much dancing, always falls forward, strong stiff arm, height helps him find holes
-Cons: Doesn't always cut up field, runs to sideline often, not elite speed(to be expected)
He's a legit 4*. I'll take him all day.

point me to a single highlight where he is physical. Show me any physicality ON FILM.
You can keep your offer list cuz any player that is 6'3 220 lbs that runs pretty fast will get a ton of offers cuz guys that size and that athletic don't grow on trees.
I knew a guy in HS that played 1 game of HS football before he tore his ACL and he got several scholarship offers because he was 6'6 285 lbs. Nevermind the fact that he was soft as warm butter.
Cool if you know so much about recruiting and about how good players are or are not why don't you get a new profession expert.

My line of thinking is because he's in Bama he gets more exposure than guys like Curry. On film you don't seen anything special about him. I think he's more of a jumbo athlete than a RB projection. If you watch his film he's not very fast, he doesn't show much physicality for someone as big as him and he's a little soft. I don't see how he ever starts at RB here. If he moved at a different position, sure. He should've been graded an athlete not a RB based on what we see on his film.
I don't see how anyone can watch Curry's film and say Joiner looks better than him. I'm thinking LSU is recruiting Joiner to play elsewhere but just telling him to come play RB to get his signature on paper. They're actually very good to compare to Darrel Williams when you watch how they run. Curry to me looks like he's going to be a better DW while Joiner looks like he's a lesser DW on film. DW was a very solid back for us but he was far from being special. Curry is the one LSU really probably projects to be a meaningful RB for them with Provens being the change of pace guy. Joiner will be a guy they'll figure out his position once he gets on campus even if they're not telling him that.

Joiner is rated higher than Curry by every recruiting service. Joiner has a more impressive offer list from top college programs than Curry.
Evidently people who evaluate talent for a living are looking at their film and rating Joiner higher.
Sure, the experts could be wrong, but they are probably better at evaluating film than the posters on here who look at a you tube highlight reel and draw conclusions without doing near the research scouts have done.

Joiner plays in the highest classification there is in the state of Alabama, in the division with the most eyes on it because it's the division Hoover high plays is. So joiner has had all the exposure he could possible have, all while playing a lot of kids no where near his size/athletic ability.
When I watch his film I'm not blown away at all. I think we can afford to skip signing him and just load up on 2-3 big time backs next year. If chris curry played in the same division as joiner he'd be way higher rated

This argument seems contradictory.
You argue Joiner gets more exposure playing against kids who have nowhere near his size in a higher classification than Curry. That just means all of Curry’s film is against players smaller and less skilled than Joiner plays against. The fact Joiner looks like a man among boys at the highest classification level in Alabama is exactly the real he is rated so high. That’s not a bad thing.
It’s also not true that playing in a smaller classification in and of itself gets you a lower ranking. Damone Clark plays fior Southern lab, a 1a team, and is higher rated than most all 5a linebackers in the state.
I like Curry. He might end up being better. But we have a lack of depth at running back and the people who evaluate talent for a living have Joiner rated higher. From the film 8 watched Joiner was an extremely smooth runner with very good hips and feet for a big guy.

If they played in the same division, Chris curry wouldn’t have all those long TD runs that made scouts watch him. Curry played against inferior competition. Y’all are discounting Joiner because of film against great high school talent, but completely ignore Curry stomping arse against MPSA quality players.

This reminds of Darrel Williams. He was committed to ASU (I think) but badly wanted LSU. Maybe there was an SEC team in the picture. We got burned by the kid with the knee injury who went to Okie State & we got Williams.
I said at the time Williams was the kind of player that would come back to haunt LSU if we didn't get him. Well, he was arguably the best player on offense this year. I kind of feel that way about Joiner. We've been recruiting the shite out of him but now a screw up with the kicker and a shiny new object comes into play & he's out. If he ends up in the SEC Joiner will come back to haunt us.
