We are 6 hours into the first day of the early signing period. Jesus.

I should have quoted the person I was replying to.

Another poster asked me how I would feel if we didn't get but one or two of the 4 players I mentioned in my earlier post between Marshall, Surtain, Joseph, and Chase.

I am ecstatic about our current signees and how well we have done. No objections whatsoever.

I wouldn't mind Keys at all.

I think we get Joseph and Surtain.

Marshall also.

I really hope we find room for Beal. A great road grader who also can get downfield and make tough catches in traffic.

He did make some legitimate points, and he was very measured in what he said. He didn't outright predict "doom and gloom," but he did say that if this class finishes outside the top 10 when it's all said and done, it would be a disappointment. And I agree with him on that.

All he said was that he expected a bit better with the recruiting.

And this was based on the fact that with all of the coaching changes in the league, LSU should be taking greater advantage on the recruiting trail. And that hasn’t appeared to be the case.

The problem with his line of thinking is
1) We have needs (that have been addressed, thankfully.)
2) We only have 25 spots to fill them, leaving limited number of spots left. 25 is a hard max.
3) This recruiting class isn’t over. Most of our top skills position targets won’t sign until NSD. Judging this class today is very premature.

They got a great kicker the other day that will start, no doubt in my mind from day 1, and the best news of all is that he didn't count against the class.

That’s a solid and valid point.

I agree 100%. Some dead weight in this class due to package deals.

When you sign as many Linemen as we did today it’s impossible to finish Inside the top 10

I think they can sign at least 2 more over the 25 limit.

+1

I don't always agree with Hanagriff, but he is usually by far the most non-hyperbolic and rational sports analyst in the local market. He's right more often than he is wrong.

What did LSU absolutely need in this class?

1) Kicker (signed the best in the country who is a graduate transfer and award winner with tons of game experience) CHECK

2) OL (needed young and old) CHECK

3) DL (tons of big boys) CHECK

4) RB (need 1 more) not flashy but no one will meet our expectations after 4 years of Fournette and Guice

5) WR biggest needs at this point!!!!! not finished

I don't care who we sign at DB because they will be 4 or 5 star studs....we dbu....

Where did we fail? WR is my only concern at this point.

Shea Dixon said last night on Tiger Rag radio that he thinks that if LSU ends up signing Marshall, Surtain, Joseph and Joiner, it will finish with a top-10 recruiting class.

Few skill positions and no 5 stars yet, so he's got a very valid point

Thats what worries me about people banking on LSU signing 8 of the top 10 out of Louisiana next year.
If LSU has an average year next year it could get ugly. I agree on this years class about the skilled players. I mean who do we have at WR next year that really played well this year. If Marshall leaves the state this year with basically a starting spot open from day 1 then this staff dropped the ball.
