Rocket - if ND is starting to move on Devin Fuller, that sure seems to suggest ND is not optimistic about Kiel. Fuller is, however, an electric player and could be a stud.

They started showing interest in Fuller early last week, before the rumors Monday and Tuesday. ND has to cover it's bases if Kiel chooses Vandy or LSU. You guys are still pursuing Alford correct? It has nothing to do with being optimistic about Kiel or not.

That may be too strong. However, it is prudent to continue to pursue all options. I think that Notre Dame would not be pursuing Fuller as a QB if they had Kiel in the bag.
Fuller could contribute at several positions and perhaps at QB, but I think he's a WR at the next level.

I think you do what you have to do to get a guy on board..if he wants to hear that he cna play QB, you tell him he can.
Think back to Russell Shepard.

Notre Dame got Crist last time.
Maybe LSU will get Keil this time.

take this fwiw, but apparently NOW ND is showing a lot of interest in a 4 star dual threat QB...(story broke today)
LINK
ND originally wanted him to play DB, but it appears now are pursuing him at QB.
i do not want to definitively state that means gunner has chosen LSU, but it does seem likely at the moment.
To be honest, if we're not gonna get Kiel, I'd rather not get a QB this class. Provide an extra year gap between the next QB recruit and Golson. I think that makes it more likely to get an elite QB next year. If we add another decent, but not great QB, it's possible that could impact a blue-chip 2013 QB. JMO.

If LSU gets a commit from Keil, they could still go after a dual-threat like Alford or Liggins, heck, Miles visited Winston on the same trip he saw Keil. Always cover your bases on the most important position on the field. LSU could easily accept Alfords pledge and hope he doesn't play MLB, its just a gamble they would take IMO, even if they oversign and have to greyshirt someone.

I hear you. I'm just reading the tea leaves. We have 4 QBs on the board, Kiel, Liggins, Alford and Winston. I think it's kind of late for us to get back on Winston, but the football/baseball thing is working for us for both Alford and Winston - downside is - Alford is almost certainly a high baseball pick and gone, and Winston certainly could be after his final season - just depends. I think once we have Kiel, we offer Liggins with the caveat that Kiel is already on campus - Liggins is an outstanding large athlete who may end up on the defensive side of the ball with his hand on the ground - how many QB prospects can boast that?

I would love to take Keil and Alford in the same class it's just how much room do we have left. I really see the last four being Collins (hopefully), Hill, Phillips, and a QB (Keil, Liggins, Alford)

Jeremy Liggins would make a hell of a tight end, I think. You're not kidding, that guy is gigantic

i agree, and i thought that was the original plan.
but fullers film is the real deal LINK # and if he doesnt work out at QB he has the ability to play multiple other positions.

Listed at 6'3", and I think that's legitimate (and, being so young, might get another inch) - 270 is also probably legitimate, at least 260, but I think he's a little on the doughy side (and I should be able to say that - we know our own) right now. He could definitely get to a very fit 275 under Moffitt and be a beast either off the end, or as a tight end.

pretty sure kiel has gone on record saying he wanted to be the only QB in his class at the school he attends. this was awhile back and maybe his opinion has changed though....

No coach is going to commit to that with an early enrollee - it's silly, it's counter-productive. They will assuage his concerns by saying, Liggins/Alford (if LSU) or Fuller (if Notre Dame) is an athlete who can provide depth at QB, but you are our guy. Most kids will hear what they want to hear.
We're losing 2 senior QBs, we need to take 1 of each (pro and dual threat) - we don't necessarily need to sign a QB every year, but we need to get back to 5 very quickly.
Remember when we dropped to 2... bad times.

Is that counting Gore and Randle (LB) gone?

True, he is most definitely not "in the bag," and even if they felt great about their chances that shouldn't stop them from looking at other options. ND had recruited Fuller early in the process but only as a DB/WR and he wants to be a QB. We desperately need athletes so really I think ND's staff is telling him he would get a shot at QB if he came.
I seriously believe it is 50/50 between LSU and ND right now.
