If you guys remember, a few weeks back gunner said his choice of his heart would be lsu, distance being the only factor.in this latest report he says he will go with his gut instinct, which was lsu 2 weeks ago = LSU

Just a little tidbit on Kiel, not much new...

LINK

quote:

Kiel, who accepted the Indianapolis Star Indiana Mr. Football trophy at Tuesday’s Columbus North-Columbus East boys basketball game, said he wanted to make an announcement at the game, but “couldn’t make a decision.”

“It’ll be a gut feeling,” said Kiel, who was at one time committed to Indiana. “It’s been a very hard decision.”

quote:

Kiel said he has no more college visits planned and that he’d “sit down with my family and make a decision soon.” Columbus East students chanted “LSU” as Kiel accepted the trophy.

I'm probably looking at this with purple and gold glasses, and by no means expecting it, but it just seems the longer this drags out the more it points to it being LSU.

It comes across as if it's been a vetting process for LSU. As if Gunner wants to come here, but the distance is an issue and it's just an everyday questioning... "Are you sure?"

But again, I'm probably reading more into it than what's actually true.

I hope that you are right, this would be the equivlent of pulling Faulk in 95. It would stamp LSU as a national recruiting power.

I don't know if it is so much "vetting" as a debate. I'm guessing that the parents sat down and logically discussed things with him and they concluded that ND was the best choice for him. It is close to home as well as very prestigious academically and athletically. But I suspect that was more of his parents decision than his. He seems like he's definitely leaning LSU, and the chanting at the game seems to confirm it (as he may have told some friends). So I'm guessing that he went to the game planning to say "I'm going to Notre Dame," but he just couldn't do it. So, he's got another sit down with the rents to try and push LSU through. I'm thinking we have the edge, but mom and dad are still a force to be reckoned with.

EDT: ..And yeah, I'm reading a lot into things as well.

I'm not sure that mom and dad are pushing him to ND, but I do think that they are likely trying to look at things logically and logistically, which seems that it "could" point to ND. However, decisions like this, especially for a #1 QB recruit, come down to more than distance from home, etc. If his heart is telling him LSU.....if LSU feels like a home away from home.....if he believes in his gut that he will be truly happy as a part of the LSU team for the next 4 year, then he should definitely pick LSU........and I think he will. I think the longer it takes for him to make a decision, the better it is for us, because his heart can overcome his questions or his worries.

Seems like he did a lot more running in his Junior film, as opposed to his Senior, but as a pure passer, his Senior film is awesome, regardless of the talent he is playing against. Indiana may not have LA 5-A or LA Elite level talent, but I doubt its as huge a dropoff as some are insinuating.

Just watching the film, he has more QB knowledge than we've had here at LSU in years. His head is always on a swivel. He has great touch on his passes, but can thread the needle with a laser when needed. On some plays, he actually goes through a Z-Y-X-D progression while maintaining awareness of the pocket. We haven't had a QB who could do that since J Russell. And to top it all off, he's got some speed and could easily run our Option and Zone Read plays. With Kragthorpe coaching him, some time to progress behind Mettenberger, and the talent we are stocking up on the OLine and at WR & RB, our offensive attack could be unstoppable.

I can't imagine they are pushing very hard to go to notre dame. They came down here twice and once to watch preperation for the seccg.

I'll do the same thing. Because what I take from this is that some of his friends were in this audience. Think he talks to his friends about where he might be heading? Think his friends aren't going to tell someone else leaking it out? It's a thought.

The 5 best reasons this kid should come to LSU

Peyton Manning
Tim Couch
Eli Manning
JaMarcus Russell
Matthew Stafford

Despite the rookie salary cap in the new CBA.....if you live up to your expectations in the SEC and you are set for life before you ever through your first NFL pass.

I read on Scout that ND has not maintained contact with Gunner since his official visit...that was interesting...- info came as tweet from a National Scout analyst.

No. The quote says he didn't have contact for AWHILE. They have had contact since.

I like the fact that he's having trouble deciding. Notre Dame is the easy obvious choice. Him having trouble with it tells me LSU is more in play than I ever expected. Vandy is the wildcard to me. If you want education go to Notre Dame, big time football and a chance for big awards...LSU. Vandy is just in between.

the hyphotheticals and emotions and spinning in ones favor in this thread are all amusing; ND fans are doing the same thing (and i assume vandy fans are as well).

i honestly just dont think he has decided and is torn between two high profile choices.

SDS is now reporting "some recruiting gurus" have Kiel "leaning" towards LSU. These are the same clowns who started the widely-circulated rumor last week that LSU had been eliminated. FWIW - ie, not much
