1 scholly could make a difference. You never know!
If he can't play, because of medical reasons, then give the scholly to someone else.
LSU can still pay for his education and honor things that way. Don't waste a scholly on someone that can't play, that doesn't help the team at all!

I would hope they'd at least grant the poor kid a medical ship...

Well how hurt is the kid? Surely Les and LSU knew he'd might not play before offering him a full scholarship.

I don't believe breaking dreams if these kids but injury is a grey area. He has the heart, a grey shirt could be the solution. If the your injury is improved after a year. There is a schoolyard for u.

He committed last fall. Before his senior season ending injury.

Sounds like he has really bad knees. A lot of people from that area have been questioning if he'd even play football in the future. Which is why a lot of speculation was LSU might use that ship elsewhere. I'm sure Miles would grant him something like a medical, which basically gives him a free ride here. I have no idea if they can do that while he is going against the 25 man ship requirement and then it not count against us. I'd suspect no.
What have you heard on Collins Lee...

Heard he is very torn on the decision. He was all Bama a few weeks ago....but who knows now.
No one believes me anyways, so what's the difference!

Sounds a lot better than what you used to say.

This is what most people are referring to when they say 'honor his scholarship'. Don't give him a space on the 85 if he can't play, but let the athletic dept still pay for his schooling.
As I said earlier, LSU is fortunate that we can afford to still honor his scholarship even if he doesn't play. Not every school can afford to do that.

If his injury won't ever improve to allow Granier to play college football, is there a way the Tigers can still take care of his education & leave the scholly open for someone else? Apologies if this sounds like a repeat of a previous post on this thread.

How many spots do we have right now for this class?

22 commitments with a certain 23rd as Hill is coming in as an early enrollee counting toward this class. Staff should be signing 25 in February. I believe anyone who gets a gray-shirt still counts as a signee and for a player to get a medical scholarship, he will also have to be a signee.

You guys throw the term "grey-shirt" around and it seems nobody actually understands what it means, but just think it sounds good. If you are a grey-shirt: you either don't go to school in the fall, or enroll part-time and pay your own way. You are not officially on the team. In January of the following year, you enroll full-time and officially join the team and are technically part of the recruiting class for the following year.
They can not practice or condition with the team. They can not be given any advantage not extended to the normal student body. Grey-shirts are not allowed at team meetings or functions either. For all intents they are essentially, regular students.
So how a grey-shirt helps this situation I do not know? He will count this year or next against a class and he would have to pay his way the first semester.
The real fix might be to grey-shirt someone else and then give Granier a medical hardship and then freeing up his roster spot and scholarship to that player who was grey-shirted.

I'm not sure but I think the other posters are implying the greyshirt to give the kid an extra year to heal and for the coaches to evaluate whether he is going to be able to contribute. That's the only way a greyshirt makes sense.
For those that think 1 scholarship out of 85 will matter or has ever mattered, do some research and come back and show me any year in LSU or any other school's history where all 85 kids on a roster contributed in their careers. Not for that particular year, their career. You will not find 1 example of all 85 kids being contributors. It doesn't happen. That's why atrrition is so common. I'd be willing to bet that most schools fans couldn't even tell who the last 2-3 scholarships of the 85 belong to. Most schools give the final 2-3 scholarships a year to walkons. 1 scholarship would not hurt us in the slightest bit. We only have 83 on scholarship right now and are undefeated and playing for the National title. Those 2 scholarships are really holding us back.
Honor the kids scholarship. To the people saying drop him, how many of you have been bitching and complaining or commented about Bama's "processing" every year? Hypocritical much? Also how many were in the Kelvin York thread a couple of weeks ago when Kiffin dropped him because of injury? Can't bitch about another school doing it if you're going to advocate our coaches doing the same thing. Les is supposed to be the "better man" and more "honorable" guy and I believe he is. That's why I don't believe he will drop Trey Granier.

Breaux hurt his neck sr year after giving verbal to lsu. Lsu allowed him on scholly. Delvin has been trying to get back in football either playing or coaching.

Yes, it has happened before. Frankie Telfort was a top 100 recruit who was recruited by LSU, Florida, Stanford, and USC. After enrolling at USC, he was diagnosed with a heart condition before ever stepping on the field. He got a medical hardship before ever stepping on the field.
All of the other medical hardships I am aware of (including Breaux) were given after a guy was on scholarship for a year and counted towards the 85, even when the injury occurred in high school (like Breaux).
