This is one of the most civil discussions I’ve ever seen on this site

I think this is a fair topic to discuss without it being about bashing O or denigrating this class. But, do you think O got a little ahead of himself?

Its foolish to respond to such a thread until the signing class is finished.
No one knows except O and he ain't telling.

Why sign players that you are confident won’t see the field in an LSU uniform because you think they aren’t good enough? I think LSU did them a favor

Actually I agree with you. I would have cut off a body part to play at LSU (of course my brother did with no effort and pissed it away)

If I was good enough to play at LSU and I lost a spot so that LSU could take a chance at “bigger better deal” and I then went to rival school, I would do anything and everything, no matter what to make them regret that discussion, if it took me a lifetime.

Well yeah you would definitely have every right to the chip on your shoulder but that doesn't mean that what LSU did was wrong.

They are in the business of signing the best possible players to try to compete for a NC. They are not in the business of making sure no one's feelings get hurt.

My opinion on this mirrors Ripley's:
quote:

The reality is, in order to pull off what Bama does (and a few others sometimes) - in attaining the best case scenario after missing on a higher priority recruit, you have to be willing to really hurt some kids ON signing day.

You have to keep those on-the-bubble kids happy, committed, and thinking they’ll be signing on signing day... till you get that higher priority recruit earlier that day.

And that’s when you have to tell the lesser recruit “sorry, we don’t have a spot for you”.
In short, which I've not feared saying on here before: We have to be more ruthless. And yes, in my opinion, CEO got ahead of himself- he should have waited. At least on some; others the timing was fine (looking at you Clowney).

At the same time this is still true:
quote:

Asking a player to wait until February to sign is not considered processing in my book. It is being precaustionary and doing what is best for the program. If they had waited there may be a spot for them.
It's not processing. It's one of a few limited options that's been around forever (ever since the NCAA crushed the PWO for pay 'loophole'- thanks Nebraska). It's just how recruiting works.

Now, if the earlier in the year 'processing' was done in conjunction with the ESD I can see it being a more viable strategy. Again, you still have to be pretty ruthless. For example, you can tell 5* Recruit A that you'll cut 4* Recruit B loose IF, and only if, he signs in ESD. If not, 4* Recruit B gets the chance on day 2 of ESD. This more closely resembles the Clemson strategy rather than Bama.
