Was on campus for a visit along with JK Johnson. Really good player, would fit well at the nickel spot imo

I wouldn’t think we would take both Chestnut and Johnson. Don’t get me wrong we would but I don’t think both would come because of playing time.

We need one more safety, correct?

Agree.
And Kelly didn’t just throw bodies in there either. But he does want more transfers there so they can find which ones are ready to play.

We have 79 scholarships with JK J added.
39 on offense
36on defense
4 on special teams.
I assume he needs to add two or three linebackers and some dl. Maybe a center too.

Can play different positions. As stated, Duce can be a great nickel corner.

CB1 Denver Harris
CB2 Zy Alexander
Nickel Duce Chestnut
S Major Burns
S Greg Brooks

With JK Johnson and Sevyn Banks to rotate at corner. Toviano can play corner or safety. Year 2 of Welch. Our secondary can be elite and deep if we land Chestnut and JK

I'm not convinced Banks is coming back. I think he might medically retire.

I'm gonna say Chestnut and Harris on the corners with Banks, Johnson and Welch rotating in, Brooks moving up to nickel so we can get him closer to the ball and get more plays out of him, and Burns at strong safety and Zy Alexander moving to free safety.

Zy is 6-3 and he'll be over 200 after an off-season in our weight room.

Then you're looking at Toviano, Sage Ryan and Kylin Jackson as your backup safeties.

That could be a really good secondary if it falls that way.

Shouldn't be a hard sell to get both Johnson and Chestnut. Lots of opportunity there. Chestnut was one of the highest graded ACC CBs the past 2 seasons. LSU lands him they'll get 2 of the top 5 CBs in the portal with 2 more with a lot of potential.

Shame we couldn't get Cypress is the definition of shutdown CB though grades for Harris in 5 games say he was one of the best in the country.

We need all the competition we can get at DB. Especially if we want a serious run next season.
