Why not just sign him to the original deal?

Avoid negative recruiting. It makes LSU look petty.

While true, the bigger lesson to be learned by young folks, don't sign contracts if you have no intention of standing by that signature. While chasing the dollar you may just cost yourself some if these lessons aren't learned. Not likely in this case but we could cause him some troubles if we chose. Would that be our fault or his? Casting shame on LSU for the kid being a dumbass is asinine.

They have plenty of bodies slappy. The quality of the bodies is what everyone is questioning.

Sounds like LSU offered money to get him on campus, and sign a contract stating he would not visit or transfer to any other SEC school.

So why would lsu let him out of that?

I've never even heard of this type of contract. This whole situation is strange.

Someone on the board said that was the issue with the DE Baron. He signed with Ole Miss they would have to release him to be able to go to SEC.

Because it would 1000% be used to negative recruit against us. Why wouldn't you let him out of it? To teach him some sort of lesson that he won't learn? BK's strategy is to get guys who buy in to the culture and want to be here. We don't want guys we have to hold hostage and doing so, whether you think it should be or not, would be seen as petty and again, be used to recruit against us. Juice ain't nearly worth the squeeze.

He didn't want as much as Damonic Williams but I'm pretty sure it was still very steep.

As a transfer trying to get as much as possible. Honestly, I like this strategy from LSU. Really makes them go before on other visits.

He's probably trying to go back to MSU for like the 12th time.

Hasn’t Miami have a history of Welching?

That would be my biggest question. Why, after signing a contract with LSU not to attend any other SEC school and had apparently gave LSU every indication that he would attend LSU, did he then at the last minute decide to go to UM, and what has made him change his mind and want to leave Miami ?
It seems like he is just bad at making decisions and sticking with them.
Just look at his MSU Saga. How many tines did he enter the portal there ? 4 ? And didn't he also leave for somewhere else, only to transfer back to MSU ?
Look I'm all for getting a starting caliber DT, but this dude can't stick with a decision for shite. I don't know if it's him or he and whoever is advising him not being in agreement, but dude is quickly becoming a cautionary tale of how not to play your hand in the NIL/Portal Era.
It's one thing to try to get the biggest bag, but this goes beyond all that, and I wouldn't want to have to rely, from a team mate's perspective on someone who can't commit to a decision once it's made.
If it were just the Miami deal, that'd be one thing, but this dude has a long history of either going back on his decisions, having trouble making decisions in the first place, and just not being someone you cam depend on to be there for you when you need him to be.

I should have been clear. I understand we have numbers. I’m less optimistic that we have enough difference makers. I understand the downvotes. Hopefully I will be shut up by the improvements and new coaches. If they are much better I’ll eat the entire crow

This type of thinking should be in the past. The players asked for this.

Highly doubtful. He's exactly the type of player BK said he doesn't want to buy.

He's also exactly the type of player BK attempted to buy like one week before he said that quote.

Literally the only thing you know about this guy is that he's a football player who LSU recruited, that he chose Miami over LSU, and that there appear to be rumblings that Miami may not work out for him. You have zero idea whether money is his entire identity lmao.
