I'm sure you guys have already covered this in another thread, but how is he allowed to contact recruits during a dead period?

No face to face contact allowed. Pretty much everything else is fair game

It comes up every year. The rules allow telephone calls and writing to recruits. Writing includes text and e-mail.

Here is a link to the NCAA site. Scroll to the middle of the page and read the short blurb on the Dead Period.

Yes he did talk to Akers last night. I'm told that Cam loves the hire.

Him and his woman were at Ruffino's sitting at a table in the bar getting bombarded with LSU fans.... Sounds annoying, but from what I could tell, they both were having a blast... so, if he made any calls, it had to have been before 7...

Easternrio is a proven troll that likes to pretend to have sources.

Don't believe anything he types on here.

From NCAA rules:

During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.

As long as he's still coaching for Pitt

The rule has always been - if a guy accepts a new job, but keeps his old job through the bowl game, he - at most - tells all the commits to his current school to keep their commitment (at least that is the tradition) and hand them off to someone else until the end, but he can start recruiting for his new school immediately if they have a coaching slot available.

At least I'm 99% certain that's the deal.
