WE have no idea what kind of buzz Blackmon has been getting. Just because it wasnt on a recruiting site doesnt mean he isnt getting buzz.

we dont know the buzz between staffs but by his offer list it apparently wasnt much of one considering he camped at both in state schools with no offer. mathieu had film of him locking down receivers, damn good receivers at UT's camp out on the net

So, let me get this right. People on this board know more than our coaches who are looking at these young men on the field, in person. Surrounded by 400 other young men hoping to earn a scholarship, in a very competitive setting that is meant to evaluate talent. Would you rather them take a player who is hyped up but does not look to be a player when they see them in person? This guy obviously stood out to more than just Les Miles. Does the position coach have a say in this matter? How about the Defensive Coordinator? Les could not do my job unless he spent many years learning what it took me a lifetime to learn. And as much as many of you who think that you could do his job, along with the rest of the coaches who do what they do for a living, Let me just say that the next time the space shuttle is taking a trip why do you volunteer to fly the thing. I am sure some of you think that you could do a better job. I am excited that the Tigers have a new member of the fold and I wish him the best in his career.

Did you see Mathieu's offer list?? Not that impressive either. In fact, I think Troy would be the most high profile team between the two offer lists...Mathieu's best offer was USM.

You realize that even in the best classes, half of the guys don't become regular contributors.

Ok. I move to dissolve The Rant. This is a message board where people discuss, primarily, coaching decisions, good and bad.

Sometimes coaches make mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes are spotted by people with less knowledge and experience thatn the coach.

When I heard that we would have co-defensive coordinators last year, I told everyone that would listen that that was a very bad idea. As it turns out, I was right and Coach Miles was wrong. It happens.

I happen to doubt that this kid will be a standout at LSU. I may be wrong. Hopefully he is the best DE we've ever had.

And you are entitled to your opinion on this message board. If everyone had the same opinion, this would be a boring place...no need to shut down the rant.
-
I don't think anyone is saying that side is wrong...just saying we should idle back and see how things progress. Again, not to this extent at all...but there were doubts about Mathieu...and two days later he's a four star and EVERYONE is happy about him...and the staff.
-
Just saying wait and see. Nobody is saying you are absolutely wrong about this kid...just advising that the coaches probably know more than any of us.

Well, according to LINK Holliday visited in January and committed in February. I'm pretty sure Saban snuck out after the bowl game.

Does anyone know if this kid is going to qualify or if he's a sign and place or if he's like Amobi Okoye and only 16 years old or what?

but it gives us, as fans, something tangible to look at which we dont have with this guy, no big offers, no film, no ranking or evals.

Unfortunately, we may never get film on the kid considering where he plays. He said in the Tigerbait article that his film is of poor viewing quality.

Mel Oliver was an unknown DE from Bama who's bigtime teammate signed with Auburn and he didnt have an AU offer. He ended up starting for the 49ers for a while.

Most of the information from rivals and scout is because the high school coaches put the kids' names out there. I went to school with a few kids who could've played D-1 ball but the coach was a douche. You can't blame the kid for not having a profile. He doesn't run the site or talk to recruiters. He just plays ball and when he did so in front of the coaches they were impressed. DEAL WITH IT.

why does everybody think im saying this is a bad thing, im just confused as to why he is a take with the limited number of slots available. maybe if it was late in the year and we didnt have Fre'Shad Hunter, Jeffcoat, and Ash on the board it would make more sense

That's the thing, I've watched Ash's film on Rivals, and it's not great. He's got some potential certainly, but he is also very raw. There's a reason UF basically has backed off of him. Who's to say Blackmon is any different from Ash?

LSU probably felt that they had to grab a DT rather than hope that they can get some elite national guy like Ego Ferguson.
