Even so, A&M now has 2 backs committed in there class with Trey Williams and the Juco kid.

Miles will do the same thing he does with every player like Bourque: give him the opportunity to prove to them he can be a RB and if not, he will find somewhere else to use his talents. Which I think should be at WR, but who knows now since we are looking at DGB a little more heavily (Which I think we have no shot, but odder things have happened) and Cordarelle Patterson

"finishing runs" is just such a stupid concept if he's doing all of the above well

if you can't do this you might as well not be a RB in any league

well maybe peewee where you can run away from everybody

Tony Dorsett did OK in college and in the NFL for a guy who some said, 'didn't finish runs'.

For young guys that don't remember, Dorsett would run out of bounds when he was about to be tackled on the sidelines. Later in life he said avoiding contact extended his career and made his rushing numbers possible.

yeah running into defenders for the sake of running into defenders and seeming tough seems stupid

if you're a short-yardage guy who typically HAS to fall forward, it's one thing. if you're an every down back, it's probably best to avoid tacklers and get more yards or save your body

so now we get literal..bottom line, if you avoid contact at LSU, you simply won't play

and the days of having an every down back are pretty much over

The idea is to be able to "finish runs" when you have to but ideally you don't have to take on defenders head on very often.

watching this dallas-philly game, murry and mccoy wouldn't play for LSU (and i mean right now)

both avoid contact like a motherfricker (esp mccoy)

No worries! A new Bourque evaluation is up on Scout!

It says these rumors about him avoiding contact are false. Says he ran over some defenders in the game a couple of you guys attended. Says he carried some poor guy 10 yards on his back.

Guess we'll take him and be happy with him. Hope he ends up running like Jim Brown so we can bump this thread and laugh!

Bourque has been reported at 6'2-6'3, which wouldn't make him a prototypical, every-down RB.

Back in the day, that used to be the standard height of all the elite RB's like Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Eric Dickerson, Marcus Dupree, etc...

Now you almost automatically get switched to LB, WR, or even DE.

With only five to ten 6-2+ RB's coming from the high school ranks each year, it's no wonder you have to wait a decade before another Adrian Peterson comes along, amongst all these quark-back/spread RB's.

So I wish he'd stay at RB, put on some muscle, and help revive the Big & Fast RB standard of yesteryear.

I could see him as an Anquan Bolden type receiver...
