I live in Austin and the UT faithful are abuzz over UT signing the number 2 or 3 class. Herman signed 11 of Texas' top 15 but that's where the numbers get misleading. 10 of the 11 are WRs and DBs. Sound familiar? Also, UT will sign 30-31 because it didn't fill its class last year.

The point being that if LSU finishes with Joseph, Surtain, Chase and Goodrich, then, in my opinion, this LSU class is easily 6-10 nationally, only because the lack of a QB. LSU filled the trenches. But because of the kicking woes in 2017, I'll gladly take Tracy because, if he's as good as advertised, he will make the difference in a couple games in 2018.

Your thoughts?

Can UT sign 30-31 players? Isn't the 25 max rule in effect starting with this class?

Wouldn’t say we hit home runs in the trenches. But we did get good guys. Time will tell how they develop.

Totally agree.... add Marshall to that group and it’s a solid class that meets needs.

I thought 25 was the max but UT keeps reporting it will sign 30-31 and the only reason I can come up with is because it didn't fill the 2017 class.

I'm no expert on the rule, so I appreciate insight.

There is no “hard cap”, at least no more so than there has been for several years.

Also, did you overlook the 10 linemen they have signed/committed or omit them intentionally?

What about UT's 10 linemen? The worst part of UT's program is the lines and it's losing their best. Connor Williams is being drafted after missing most of his senior year and Poona Ford, the Big 12 defensive lineman of the year, may not be drafted.

If your point is to fluff UT, then why is UT reaching for project linemen so late in the game?

Since the board loves star gazing, then tell us about how highly rated UT's linemen are.

UT doesn't have 10 committed. 3 linemen signed. Two 4 star OTs and a 3 star DT. But don't let the Oeaux hate get in the way of the Herman love.

We have the #2 juco OT, they have the #4.

They have three of the top 21 HS OTs, our highest rated is #31.

There are enough positives in our class to get excited about without attempting to run down a class that is clearly better than ours.

True Texas fans that actually keep up with recruiting are MELTING because they know this highly ranked class will not help them in any way the next 2 years........but this is the Rant......

Who are these 3 high school offensive tackles? And if you think any of those 3 are better than Traore then why was Herman after Traore until Traore signed with LSU?

MOT is full of shite.

They have 10 linemen committed. Three 4 star guys and seven 3 star guys. All of their highly ranked kids are skill players. Texas won’t win shite with classes like this.

I’m with you bro..... Texas fans are happy with their ranking, but realize needs were not met. Their class is fools gold. They lost too much with the draft and other kids just UP AND QUITTING. Their O and D Lines won’t have any depth for the next 2 years. Gonna get ruff on the 40 after next year.

Your reading comprehension is awful. Traore is obviously the juco I referred to. He is ranked (2) ahead of their juco OT (4).

They signed 3 high school OTs (two 4 stars and a 3) already and have another 3 star committed, not including the juco mentioned above.

I did miscount though, it looks like they only have 9 linemen committed/signed instead of 10.

Sorry to hurt your feelings, but it’s all there on their 247 commit list. Again, a certain segment of our fan base, of which you are most certainly a part of, are insecure when it comes to Herman and Texas and lack any ability to look at this objectively. Herman is better than Orgeron and their class is better. It doesn’t mean our class sucks or that Orgeron can’t win here.

MOT, I stand corrected. But my point remains is that this LSU class is better than its ranking.

Ultimately, time will tell.

Also, UT is getting the benefit of signing 5-6 more players. I understand UT didn't have a full class last year.

Great, so we should roll in there in September 2019 and win by 3 or 4 touchdowns, correct?

I wrote a novel explaining the rule but my WiFi went out and most it. Maybe another time.

Back counting is still allowed. Short version is that if spots are available from the previous class they can still be used by early enrollees that backcount. Difference is that now kids that don't qualify count so those particular spots can no longer be back counted. If we were to miss on 1 guy this year and don't use it prior to the next signing period then that spot can be used towards the '19 class.

No, but we should be equal if not better. Dude, I'm not knocking this UT class but it takes more than one class to correct the lack of talent UT has. And UT better pray the linemen in this class pan out or Herman may not be present in 2019.
