So we have 0 of their top 15 and they only have 4. Maybe Bama isn't the most fertile recruiting ground and a keeping a guy because he can possibly recruit that state isn't a great idea.

Alabama has a 25 man class right now. Only 6 are from the state of Alabama. The key to their success is not "locking down" their home state. They're winning because they are getting the best players from everyone else's state.

LSU can be a national championship program without ever getting a single player out of the state of Alabama. Contrary to popular belief, the state of Alabama is not some football Shangri-la. Hell, per capita, Louisiana has more great players. Why do you think this year's Bama class has almost as many players from Louisiana as players from Alabama?

A roster full of great Alabama players isn't what's making that program great. LSU taking one are two players from there doesn't mean shite when Saban is taking 5-6 from Louisiana
Agreed. That's why I can't stand the obsession with 'the fence'. If the focus is getting the top LA players to LSU it almost becomes binary. Pour your resources into getting a Moses and less emphasis on a Phillips? I think it's a bad broad strategy. Yeah, in some circumstances that's exactly what you do. But those are becoming more and more rare. Many schools are a national brand today. Why limit yourself firstly. Secondly, because the competition is also a national brand, and they didn't limit themselves, the chances that you can successfully put a fence up goes down dramatically while you're wasting resources trying to put it up.

I'm as guilty as the next, but it's contradictory to gripe about the fence or losing in-state talent in one breath but then gripe about slow playing or not going all-in on an OOS kid. Resources, time, visits, and methods are limited. It is a zero sum game.

Is it not widely known that Miles's recruiting philosophy to put all his eggs in one basket and also slow play in state kids?

All you guys have done for the past year and a half up until Wednesday is cry about linebacker recruiting. Do you know which state shits our linebackers like it's nothing. Alabama? The state of Alabama produces an absurd amount of freak linebackers this year was Moultry and Benton, the year before Davis and Wilson, then Rashaun Evans and Ruben Foster. If we could steal guys like them out of state you guys wouldn't ever have to bitch about linebacker recruiting again and weaken Bama in the process.

I'm not sure why this is hard to understand, but I will explain again Alabama has 4 of the top 10 in state and are huge favorites for Ray and Ruggs. If they get both that is 6 out of the Top 10. That's called keeping your players home he doesn't need to go top 15 when he can get better guys nationally but he will definitely get the lions share of the top 10.

The key is making the program attractive enough that you can draw the best in multiple states. The Louisiana wall garbage is simply an ego thing. If we offer the best opportunity for recruits to develop, win and move on to the next level then we can take what we want from LA and anywhere else. That's why Bama can raid everyone else's cookie jar.

Develop, win and place (NFL). That's the formula. Then we become the Honey Badger and "take what we want" cause "honey badger don't care",
