Could Brandon Harris and Ed Paris Jr be "freebies" in signing class

I don't want LSU to break the rules. But if this is allowed the way the rule is currently written then I think Brandon Harris and Edward Paris Jr signing financial aid agreements before Dec 1 might not count against this class and thus allow 25 more signings. It's worth looking into.

One idea involves “not counting” kids who signed financial-aid agreements with Tennessee before Dec. 1 in a sly maneuver, while another has to do with a new recruiting term called “blue-shirting.”

What about those two loopholes? The first has to do with the financial-aid agreements. Under the SEC’s “over-signing” bylaw (which went into effect around two years ago), schools are limited to signing 25 prospective student-athletes (PSAs) to a National Letter of Intent and financial aid from Dec. 1 to May 31 each year. This year, a new NCAA interpretation allowed kids who have been approved to enroll early to sign financial-aid agreements beginning on Aug. 1. According to Woodberry, the first loophole could be kids who signed before Dec. 1. “They’re freebies, if you will.”

you can still only have 25 initial counters per year, but I guess this could be a mechanism to oversign grade-risks, greyshirt candidates, etc.

but if they sign in 2013 is that 2014 ?

Ask Tennessee, they're using it big time with their 33 commits. I think 17 are EE's which allows them to use the loophole.

enrolling in the spring semester counts for 2014 unless you had room to count back to 2013.

they must be real low on scholarship players, there are still rules regarding the 85 limit and EE's. To bring in all 33 they'd still have to be able to back count 8 and they signed 22 last year....not sure how they're going to pull this off

And they are still recruiting

There has to be a lot of attrition in that class

Anyone know how our numbers worked last year?
We could get harris and paris to not count against the initial counter limit of 25 IF we have room to count back.
We had 27 commit/sign last year for 2013.
8 enrolled early, but not all counted back to 2012.
Two of the 8 were also juco players and one was a prep player (with hoko and peterson actually signing the year before but not enrolling until january. stokes just enrolled in January after being a CC commit)
IIRC correctly there was talk last year of being able to count back 4 or so of the EEs, but i think they actually ended up counting only 2 back last year. This could be different, but its my recollection

The 25 cap is essentially a myth. As long as you have 85 by August there's very little that can't be made to work.

Theres also uncommitted players who have signed the financial papers with us
I believe Tony Brown has signed with us, as well as other schools he's talking to
So wherever he ends up come January (baton rouge), he won't count as initial counter for that school's class they sign in february
I wonder if speedy has signed
I doubt GWIII has because he still to improve his ACT one point
Anyone else a potential EE for us?

Not necessarily a myth. Correct on the 85 being the supreme rule.
The 25 cap only pertains to the amount of initial counters a team inks from December through May

That's why I used the word 'essentially.'
It's supposed to be a hard cap, but since it came into effect it's had very little impact on what schools actually do. Where there's a will there's a way when it comes to scholly numbers. I wouldn't lose too much sleep trying to keep up with the individual class counters, just watch the 85 around attrition time and it will tell you all you need to know.

We've been over this numerous times. 25 really doesn't mean shite. 85 is the number. Multiple sec schools have signed over 25 the last few years. Tenn will be one this year, Aub and tamu did it also. Saban us the master of recruiting loopholes. They are either going to sign over 25 or tell a few to take a hike.
