Looks slow. I haven’t seen the power element either at the HS level he plays in. Time will tell

Plenty of good RBs in traditional hotbeds within a couple hundred miles from campus. Not sure why we felt compelled to take a kid from Ohio that Ohio st didn’t want.

Not unreasonable to wonder if Faulk is finding his sea legs in recruiting. This kid was surprised when Faulk called and jumped on the opportunity. He was basically headed to a mid-level Big Ten school or Kentucky if LSU doesn’t come calling.

Ohio St. only passed because they already had 2 top 100 guys committed. Have read plenty on their boards that indicates this is a guy they wish they had room for. The rest of his offer list is a Who's Who (Florida, Penn St., Notre Dame, Michigan, etc.), so I think we can trust their judgement over ours. Can't speak to his speed at this point but CEH and Rice, both guys who people questioned their top end speed, turned out to be plenty fast for what was required of them. Time will tell, of course, but a lot of folks that get paid to evaluate like what they've seen from this guy.

Spencer ware was a better athlete and package than this kid,

Um, there were plenty that saw Spencer as a depth only because he wasn't that fast on pape. He was a tough instinctive runner that was often playing QB, far from a sure thing.

Ware was a Top 100 player who blew up and ended as a standout at the Army AA game

Moss, Etienne, the kid from Houston etc all make a lot of sense and are in play for LSU next year.

No way in hell Etienne comes to LSU

Go watch Terrelle Pryor’s high school tape. It’s even worse and he was a very good college player.

247 is the only site not high on him(relatively). Kid can play but the step up will be big. Some make it some don't. We've got a kid on the roster now that no one will question his competition in hs and he's struggled adjusting, John Emery. Took CEH 4 years to turn into what he did. Bradford had nowhere near the offers this kid does, pre pandemic also, and he has been strong in practices. I've questioned many takes by our staff but this isn't one of them.

Su madre? Because I said the competition he plays against is what sucks

Emery came to LSU an immature freshman who needed to get stronger in the weight room and had vision issues that had to be corrected in the off-season. I think we will see a big jump this year. To say he struggled isn’t entirely fair. He played behind a 1st Round pick upperclassman in a passing system that requires protection and route responsibilities for a RB who was 18 and only used to taking handoffs at Destrehan. It’s understandable he needed the year. Helaire was great but it’s not like Curry or Davis-Price lit it up last year either. Emery will be just fine imo.

I think Emery will be fine as well but you made my argument for me by giving the reasons Emery had trouble adjusting. Those are common reasons kids have trouble adjusting in competition even from the highest levels of hs.
If a kid is playing questionable competition then all that's asked(usually) is that the prospect dominate it. That's what Kiner is doing. He's not playing down to it and that speaks to his talent.
As for Emery, I'm not talking about last year but we can use that as the beginning of a trend. Sure he was behind Clyde but so we're Curry and TDP. They beat Emery out for the 2 and 3 spots. No shame in that and that's why I don't consider that in my debate. My concern is that he isn't projected 1 or 2 for this year's team. Maybe sharing the 2 with TDP. Curry seems to be the starter and he's likely the least talented of the entire group we have. While it's doubtful Bradford jumps him initially, it's been suggested Bradford isn't far behind him. I'm still a believer in Emery. It's just taking longer than hoped.
It's ok if you don't like Kiner, one of the guys I like a lot on here isn't the biggest fan either and has questioned the take before. I get it. I'm just giving the argument of those that do.

I appreciate the debate. I wish more would appreciate varying perspectives. Any questioning of an LSU commit’s ability is met with a sea of downvotes.

The reality is that we take some Tae Provens types sometimes and it’s obvious we did a poor job recruiting. It happens. This board will coated thick with sugar while it’s happening. I’m not saying Kiner isn’t worthy, he’s clearly worthy. But I believe LSU should always recruit elite at RB. It’s part of our DNA. So when we go to Ohio and grab a kid who is really good but not great, it’s fair to question it. Wheaton is explosive. Goodwin has ridiculous skills. We likely have 4 Backs returning next season and are favorites to add Moss and in a good position with the Houston kid and Etienne. So you scratch the head at this but obviously Faulk feels like he has his man. We will see.

Also worth mentioning that Faulk is one of the greatest Tigers of all time and has earned the right to make mistakes. But I think it’s fair to assume he’s far from a seasoned recruiter and will he learning a lot on the job. Remember he was coaching high school just a few years ago and is in his first year as a position coach. He’s still new to this. I’m not saying he can’t evaluate but it’s at least a fair point to make.

Kiner’s productivity cannot be ignored. It is prolific. He will likely go down as a Top 5-10 RB in Ohio football history in rushing yards, all purpose yards, and TD’s. Kid had 88 TD’s going into this year.

Roger Bacon is a catholic high school with an enrollment of 400 or so. That would probably equate to about 2A LHSAA football.

Competition could definitely be better. Stevan Ridley played 1A football in a MS private school league and he was a multi-year pro. Different style backs but just saying.

He’s not very big. I’d guess 5-7 ish and 185 lbs.

Still...I like Kiner. Smart kid...good head on his shoulders and talented. Every back on your roster doesn’t have to be a bell cow type.

Good post. Kiner will end up CEH sized and I'm guessing the staff hopes he can eventually become another version of him. Worth a shot and if Wheaton still decides to come then we will adjust accordingly.

24/7 has him 5’10” 205

Rivals has him 5’9” 209

That’s a long way from 5’7” 185
