College needs NFL type structure

Enforceable contracts that provide a commitment to the team. Multiply year for most players. This is an absolute nightmare for coaches/teams. The whole team can leave every year. This is a true clown show. You need some consistency with contracts. Think of the Saints with the rookie QB Shough. If the Saints were a college team he would probably be gone after showing great late season improvement.

NFL is awesome. You get to follow players for virtually their entire career, and enjoy a franchise rebuilding itself like the Saints are currently doing. What is happening in college football is going to exponentially help the NFL. They have sat by and watched their #1 threat to split the pie commit suicide.

That would require a player’s union and collective bargaining. Players would have to officially become listed as university employees. I’m in favor of this.
But, those with money do not want to become official employees and extend full employment rights to players. This system will have to become really untenable to the people who make decisions in order for them to go down that road.
For the time being, they are happy to have this quasi-employee scheme that benefits the haves and will eventually decimate the have nots.

I'd argue the opposite. They rarely compete on the same days.
It's their free minor league.

Except some of the minor league players are getting paid more then the big league players.
