Maybe that's what they thought he could be all along. We'll never know, but he's not a LB now so he wasn't really taken over Claiborne at this point.

I think it's safe to say they didn't think he was a FB all along since they took Swanson as a FB.

After this year we will start pulling in those big time offensive guys! Just think we almost got him with the last 3 years offense! Imagine if we have a top 10 nationally or top 3 or 4 SEC offense??? LSU is gonna be good y'all!!! We basically beat everyone with a BADASS Def!!!! And by the way A&M defense isn't close to ours.... Not close!!!! Still 4 or five years away mayb more!!! I mean they are basically playing with our third string

Duke Riley will be better in time, IMO. We're just loaded at Lb with guys that are improving greatly via Chief's coaching prowess. Claiborne is a fine player who was probably worthy of a scholarship, but we can't offer everybody and he wouldn't be in the 2-deep at LSU right now.
ETA - he reminds me of Jerico Nelson, will be a very productive college player.

Freaking Rice put up 500 yards and 31 points on their 1s and 2s. At least when we played 18 redshirt and true freshman, it was against a UNC squad that had most of their offense in tact.
