It appears that this rule will allow Bama to sign as many as they want. Thy could grey shirt 50 recruits, and give them a schools the next year and it will not count toward the annual limit on signings. When they get to their 100 limit, then they will process some unfortunate guys who thought they would get a free ride for 4 years. This rule needs to be eliminated.
I bet they put this in for Saban.

There is so much wrong with this, that it would be fruitless to even try. I'll just say that Atkins will be able to get his scholarship this year and not count against our 25.

exactly, if this rule is as it appears to be, it is going to open the door for some of the most shady recruiting of all time. Bama will sign every player they want with this rule in place as it appears to read. NO wonder Bama is still after so many players even with 24 already signed and 4 more already committed.

I got to see how this works out. Amazing.

Where are you getting this? I'm almost positive you can back count up to 5.
All back counts have to be early enrolls.

can he just be a walk on and not count at all towards the 25 signee limit for any year.
yes. 25 limit is for 'recruits that receive offers of financial aid'. So no LOI and no FA papers, send PWO offer- does not count. If they go a year (used to be 2 yrs) with no aid, they can be put on scholarship without counting towards any years 25.

I remember seeing something a while back that said that if a player was ever recruited, he can't just pay his own way and walk on to the team in order to evade signing limits.
this is something wholly different than a PWO. You can recruit a PWO, just don't offer him a schollie in the end.

This is a Blue Shirt: no offers (in writing), no in-homes by any of the 10 coaches, no official visits to the school.

ETA: sorry, late to the party. I just repeated Indiana Tiger (didn't read far enough).
