You’re in favor of professional football with 30’ish teams. You may want to research the NFL. It may be the game for you.

It’s virtually every athletic department that operates at a loss. How do you think baseball, basketball, soccer, etc is funded?

No I don’t Spears is the only one but I’ve heard just as many former players say “we had it pretty good in college.”

So are you. You just continue to call it something else. We have professional athletes on the LSU football team and that’s exactly how we treat them(in every meaningful way outside compensation). Same with every other program.

None of those budget shortfalls are the fault of the players. You’re just arguing for a redistribution of wealth, nothing more.

Also, “we had it pretty good in college” and “no, they shouldn’t be allowed to get endorsements” aren’t the same thing.

I’m for the current system of amateurism and student athletes. There are no professional athletes currently on the team. If there were, they would be ineligible.

I’m not arguing for redistribution of wealth. I’m explaining the current landscape and the reality of college athletics. Players are currently paid — it’s called tuition, room and board, and access to facilities and tutors that normal students don’t have.

Again look into the NFL and possibly XFL for your football enjoyment.

if the XFL really exists in reality and not theory, do they allow players to be signed straight out of high school? If they do, then that would be the avenue for recruits that want to get paid to go. If not perhaps a minor league under 23 league should be stared for players not yet ready for the pro game, but to where they could be payed for their image and services, a salary.

To open this up to the college game though it will evolve to where the colleges whose alumni and backers can pay the most will get the best players. It will totally shift the power balance of college football. Should be a great benefit to University of TExas, Notre Dame, USC, Texas AM, maybe Alabama, Ohio State and perhaps a few others. I just don't see LSU having any chance of being relevant in college football in a full scale free market pay for play scenario which is where this ends up.

How can California pay college athletes when they can't even get the homeless from crapping in the streets? Isn't a degree worth something?

Wouldn't allowing players to be paid by outside individuals increase the risk of players manipulating the point spread.
