If he commits to us we might as well save some gas and pick up an NCAA inestigator in Indy...a "handler"...never have I heard of such a thing...you mean an "agent"....if Thug U said no thanks....I wouldn't touch it..no one player is above the program..no matter how good he is or is supposed to be...see Ryan Perrilloux.....or Lester Earl...not worth it...ever

A mentor/trainer is not a violation of NCAA rules, if there is a future agreement for agency then it is illegal, but that affects the players eligibility, LSU has no privity to any agreements BB may have with his mentor and thus no NCAA liability

easier said then done.

like I said, there's still a lot of LSU fans that are gunshy from any recruit that is somewhat "cocky".

Straight from Wikipedia

quote:

His workouts, recruiting and news media requests are handled by Brian Butler, a former felon, rapper, and mobile phone salesman who identifies himself as Brown's trainer and manager.[13][14] Butler sold updates of Brown's recruitment via website for $9.99 a month or $59 a year and sought contributions that he says are used to take players on a tour of colleges each summer.[13] At one point, Butler announced Brown was considering entering the Canadian Football League (CFL), but Brown backed down from that claim.[14] As of February 2009[update], Brown is being investigated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s amateurism certification staff to determine whether Butler has done anything to jeopardize the amateur status of the players he advises.[15]

It is not a useless statement dumbshit...The fricking U said no thanks due to the shady situation...fact...I would take that for what it's worth...why does a college athlete need a "handler" or someone to dabble in his / her affairs...we are supposed to be molding them into responsible members of society and teach them to make intelligent and responsible decisions for themselves..maybe if that's not possible for the young man..then he shouldn't be on a major college campus....STFU with you 100th post

Thus the use of "he's been" rather than "he is" in my comment.

Notice the use of present tense in my last post. I know he's been a head coach. I understand it's not like getting knighted by the Queen. He's not anymore. I'm suggesting that he either doesn't enjoy or is not good at the personal interactions to be successful as a recruiter or head coach. Probably because he's Mormon :sarcasm:

I may be wrong. I've never met him and he may be Mr. Personality, but he doesn't look that way whenever the cameras are on him. And he doesn't do many interviews.

So what's your point?

I love dick measuring over # of posts, it is such an excellent proxy for intelligence or information.

Secondly, it does not matter whether BB or his handler have entered into an agency agreeement in terms of what the NCAA does with respect to LSU football, they are two different issues, the NCAA investigation is to determine the amateur status of the players being mentored by this guy, i.e. whether the amateur player forfeits his status because of an agency agreement. This will not adversely affect LSU's program in any way and not subject LSU to an investigation due to recruting a student-athlete who was not in fact eligible to play. Whether you realize this or not this happens all the time in individual sports, soccer and other non-revenue sports due to the players competing on traveling teams with player who receive compensation. Worst case scenario for Bryce Brown is that he may have to serve some sort of limited suspension time if indeed the NCAA declares his mentor an agent. The risk/benefit on this for Coach Miles and staff is easy, you recruit the hell out of the kid.

So when can expect a real update about how Brown's visit went? More inside information as to what he is really thinking about doing?

sonny has been trying to reach the family...I guess they have that funeral this week?

Volnation quotes:

I'm hearing that BB will be a Vol from all the right people. I say book it. PosterLexvol

'Nuff said for me, Lex. Thanks.

Can you offer more details without giving up your source?

Good source? Single or multiple person(s)?

Are they saying that he's "likely" or has he "officially" made it known that he fully intends to be a Vol? In other words, are they stating their opinion, or what they know (and you trust) to be fact? Percent of certainty (i.e. 100%, 90%, etc.)?

Don't doubt your reliability for a minute, but want to know how confident you feel that we should be in your source's opinion / statement of fact.

I feel as confident as I can about a recruit. I've just always wanted to say book it on the VN. We all know anything can happen. If I had to put a percentage soley based on the source I'd say 100%. Poster Lexvol

I will now officially be just as disappointed as everyone else if it doesn't happen. This guy is a game changer

Thanks, Lex. I am going to take it that he has made it known to folks on The Hill, and that it is a done deal.....as far as one could tell......or know.......at this point.......considering how crazy it has all been up to this point......and all other factors being carefully considered.......understanding that such may not ultimately occur at all...and that these results are not typical......and it was a driver on a closed course......and "WARNING" this beverage may be hot.

I have taken out my Big Orange Appointment Book, and scheduled Bryce Brown for an ALL VOL appointment on March 16th.

Right this way Mr. Brown. We've reserved a table for you and 108,000 of your closest friends.
They've been expecting you, so mind your ears when they see you walk into the room.

Just found this on Tigerdroppings...Dont know if this has already been smashed down or not. Found it interesting...

Just spoke to the owner of Bogies to get to bottom of these rumors. BB did, in fact, go to Bogies and Reggies. I asked about the alleged fight at Reggies. That didn't happen. "His brother told a bouncer (at Reggies) to frick off, no big deal." As to what happened at Bogies and BB allegedly going in an out of the bathroom with two ladies..."Not true at all. The kid (BB) did not even drink. He sat in the corner."

I think what most people are concerned about is the influence this guy, and possibly other people of disreputable character, may extend to not just Bryce Brown but other LSU players should Brown end up a Tiger. They are afraid of letting a wolf into the chicken coop, to borrow an old country saying. This "handler" may be able to reach other LSU players, putting them in contact with himself or other "business partners." They are afraid of a snowball effect that could end up infecting a large part of the team.

Now, I don't know Brown or any of these guys he associates with in his own time. I am somewhat wary of the way it sounds but I don't know that anything serious could come of it. Brown himself needs to know the rules and as long as our coaching staff and enforcement guys watch the situation, then nothing problematic may come of it. If we see a troubling situation occuring, a la Maurice Clarett or Lester Brown, then kick him out for violating team rules.

Unless he has some serious noticeable character issues, I can't help but enjoy the prospects of Rueben Randle at WR, Russell Shepard at QB, and Bryce Brown at RB...with Dominique Allen helping clear the way for him at FB. Who are you going to key on? Randle? Brown? Dammit, Shepard is pretty good too! I pity the DC.

Oh by the way...to keep Brown fresh throughout four quarters and the entire season, we rotate him with another pretty good RB named Michael Ford. Sweet!

False, his brother is a current Miami player and had the same "handler/mentor" whatever. Seems like Miami didn't feel like getting dragged around by Brown, not because of Butler. But nice try.

Do you people remember what it's like to be on probation..I sure do and we sure as hell suffered for it in basketball..how soon we forget that setback.

I am not willing to risk that shite in any other sport ever again..and let's be real..this kid carries that risk a lot more so than most recruits

total bs about the fight. But there is news that bryce really really enjoyed his visit. And he is considering us very hard. And this did not come from potential players.com.

cool, I figured it was BS. SO he has two more weekends before he decides and still has an official visit, right? I wonder if he'll visit UT or Miami...

Dreaux, can you give us a hint of where that came from? Sonny still has no update...(can't reach them yet??) I figured the family was at their funeral today or unavailable?
