Screw all the rankings....

LSU is getting 2 good quarterbacks.

Ratings mean nothing.

Once the other major sites do their re-evaluations his composite score will move up. Both Narcisse and brennan have an entire season to play and plenty of movement both up and down could happen for either. It looks great right now, but the inevitable thought that one of them feels devalued by the staff is coming and hopefully they will hold strong. Its not too long ago that we had the #5 dual threat in Anthony Jennings and #5 pro style in Hayden Rettig both commit and stick with it, and a year later the #3 dual threat guy in Harris beat them both out. Now Jennings is in Laffy, Rettig was gone before he ever saw the field in BR, and those lofty rankings for both we all clung to in the wake of Mett moving on turned to squat.... Heres another for you in non tiger fashion... Jeff Driskel the #1 dual threat and Jacoby Brisset the #3 dual threat in the same class, Driskel wins the job, Brisset transfers, dissapears.....and Driskel is the worst top ranked QB in recent memory......more times than not it seems two highly ranked guys in the same class both end up not being what the majority thought. Now having a top ranked guy replace an outgoing guy who they sit behind maybe a year, I reference the E.J. Manuel to Jameis Winston sitch, seems to work very well. Many more examples and all yield great seasons...Darron Thomas, Jeremiah Masoli, Marcus Mariota... Pat white, geno Smith....Tahj Boyd, Deshaun Watson....Greg McElroy, A.J. McCarron. ....Aaron Murray, Hudson Mason.....we cannot all be Ohio state and luck in a team player like Braxton Miller start, win , get passed up by injury, see barret start, win, same deal, passed up, and all stayed....that's insane in today's football. Having a guy know hes the guy is not a bad thing. Sure I like competition as much as anyone..without it some players never emerge and some get the keys to a car they can't handle. But like with Mett here, he knew he was it. No looking over his shoulder. And we end up having two of the best offensive years in recent memory...Bet Harris this year benefits from now really knowing its his show, no former starter behind him he has to worry about any little mistake over. It will make him confidently take risks and succeed more often than before when hed of been unsure about his decision, and even a thousandth of a seconds hesitation is the difference between a score or a pick. I hope what's been a recent story with our qbs does not continue. Jefferson #11 dual, Lee # 10 pro....aforementioned Jennings and Rettig....granted perriloux, Zach lee, and gunner kiel all contributed to this madness, it still happened. And happens everywhere....ask Texas am how they feel about #1 qbs today....bet both Kyle Allen and kyler Murray were gonna win the NC in their minds...blaming the manziel culture or sumlin to excuse their clear frustration at neither really being the guy. Now they got Trevor "beat Alabama a million years ago" knight and they want to cry...if both commits stay at LSU after one is named next year, because I think Harris jumps because he will emerge this year, was ranked so high for a reason....cause god knows if they can help it one of them gets it early and we don't patchwork a season of Danny etling and company.. The other is gone and never seen again. Sucks but its the truth

The disparity between Brennan's 247 ranking and his composite is crazy lol

No shite huh. You could say the same to some extent for Walker Little, the #2 247 ranked player overall, but #36 in the composite. At the top end you hardly ever see something like that.

Trey Smith is another one. #5 247, #52 composite.

All he needs is to add weight, but he has the technique and talent to be a star for LSU.

Brandon Harris is not jumping to the pros after this year. He will have a good year but not good enough to go a year early. If he does good for him and good for the team because they must have had a good year. Plus I think Etling could be really good for us next year and I hope he gets a shot

Heres the problem. Harris is another extremely talented DUAL THREAT QB. Which means he is lookin to run the ball at the first sign of pressure or perceived open field ahead of him. He is not conditioned nor has been imprinted with staying in the pocket, extending the play and going through all 5 progressions before taking off running. Again it doesn't matter if you can throw the ball 70 yards from one knee if you do not play the position as a real qb and hit your target no matter the size of the widow you are given... KNOWN AS ACCURACY UNDER PRESSURE!!! It is too easy to stop essentially yet another running back in the back field when the defense just stacks the box... Unfortunately LSU has a whole stable of these quaterbacks and more coming. You can count on less than one hand the number of consistently successful DUAL (running) THREAT QBS that have been successful in this league and beyond..

1. All 5 progressions! Thats A lot of targets!

2. Stop talking like you need "great quarterbacks" in this league. Its a running back league - pure and simple. All you need is a game manager. The really elite passers go to other leagues. Reason? They want to throw the football. It kills me when posters start talking as if you gotta have Peyton Manning to win the SEC. Just not true.

Blake Sims broke Bama's single season passing record (as a 5th year Sr.), after spending part of his career at running back. He also won the SEC with a 12-2
record. LINK

3 WR, 1 TE, and a RB out of the backfield = 5 progressions... we have the best running back in college football now and we MANAGED to get our butt handed to us when the opposing team stacked the box and stopped the run. BTW: Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Cam Newton all pro passers played in this league and did more than manage the game. If thats what we want is just a QB that can manage we will continue to somehow manage to loose the big games. Just sayin....

Your points are all valid, but you're missing the big picture/purpose. I don't know that everyone expects or even needs both of them to succeed at a high level. The purpose is that QB, like Oline and dline, are critical positions that aalso happen to be the hardest to evaluate. You have to recruit talent and numbers at a high level and hope that the cream rises to the top. The better talent, and more recruits that come to your program, the higher chance that you yield efficient results.

The only real difference between our past product on the football field the last decade and a championship dynasty run is that we have not recruited enough numbers and talent at Qb and arguably, until the last 3 years, Oline as well.

That is the reason we have fallen short the last 5 or 6 years. Not coaching, not a miserable cheating midget with a temper, and not play calling. Recruiting elite level QBs and OL/DL and having the depth to reload without a hitch. That has determined play calling, coaching and losses not the other way around.

People have confused the cause and effect for way too long. This is the beginning of a championship level recruiting type run and we have every reason to get excited

EXTREMELY WELL STATED... AND RIGHT ON POINT... SO LETS RECRUIT AND SIGN THE BEST ATHLETES POSSIBLE AT EACH POSITION, GET A QB THAT IS A STUDENT OF THE GAME, COACH EM ALL UP AND THE WINNING WILL FOLLOW...

Well said! Its been depth. We had lazy or Mr. Second place recruiters (Chavis and Haley) on the DL and just an average recruiter in Stud. Stud is a fit for the Big 10, just a fish out of the water for the SEC and guy who should have been around for three years at max instead of the six or sever year run he had in BR. Now we have elite recruiters in O and Grimes for those positions. Its now up to Cam or whomever will be the QB coach/ OC long term to bring in two elite QBs per recruiting cycle.

I gotcha, BUT pass plays are not built with 5 options post snap. Most plays have 3 solid options built in. QB makes pre snap read which will usually limit his choices. Post snap, and on his first step of his drop he confirms coverage. At the top of his drop he's usually working with 3 options. He only has 3.5 seconds from the time the ball is snapped. I was picking with you but I got your point.

My point is, that the SEC is consistently one by game managing QBs. Not elite ones.

Btw - Cam Newton was a dual threat QB. A REAL dual threat. A few years later, Auburn returns to the Natty with CB convert. Our problem is more play calling/philosophy than QBing.

Not Coaching? The #1 reason for struggles has been lack of offensive identity, and schemes that are not built around your QBs strengths.

Miles has coached conservatively because of the lack of experience and trust he has in his QBs that was left as a void since perriloux was kicked off.

Do people just forget our last year with mett, our offense was not the problem that year. We passed the ball plenty to Jarvis and Odell. Mett was the first truly developed senior quarterback without PTSD that we had in a decade.

The key to winning championships in the SEC (we have had all but the most important) is to develop talent and numbers at the QB position so that you can reload, and use a tenured seasoned QB by the time it's their turn to take the reigns, and one that you can fully trust with an open offense.

The rant and LSU fans over simplify this. Miles doesn't just run cause he is hard headed; he does this when he is having to throw a sophomore or freshman or any second year QB into the fray of SEC defenses.

He only won 8 games in 2008, by letting his young QB throw the ball and take his lumps, but that just destroyed Lees confidence and career. That experience should come first and foremost in the film room and on the practice field, so they have ample time to process it without the pressures of public criticism.

Think about it and open your mind a bit. It doesn't just make all the sense in the world, it is the truth
