obviously darrington took the bama offer early because he didnt get an offer from lsu. now that lsu is begging for him, he feels as if lsu didnt appreciate him and bama has been on him the whole time. i think if lsu offered him early he would end up in br, but they waited too late. however, he could just be screwing around with everyone and still pick lsu on wednesday.

This is no doubt his parents telling him to honor his committment, Saban stuck with him, etc. Tough loss for us IMO, but really not all that surprising. We've given a lot of guys the benefit of the doubt on grades, we should have taken a chance with this kid.
Seems like we were too comfortable that we could come in late on a Destrahan kid if he made the grades.
Score one for Saban here, even though he proved last year he'll offer anyone even if he knows they won't qualify, so he wasn't really taking much of a risk.

Here is the second article linked:
Sentimore sticking with Alabama commitment
Mike Strom, The Times Picayune, February 02, 2009 2:34 p.m.
Destrehan defensive tackle Darrington Sentimore’s 11th hour dalliance with LSU ended right where it started with Sentimore remaining an Alabama commitment.
Sentimore, one of Louisiana’s premier recruits and a nationally-ranked defensive line prospect, re-affirmed his verbal commitment to Coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide on Monday following an official visit to LSU this past weekend. Destrehan Coach Steve Robicheaux confirmed Sentimore’s decision.
“He’s still committed to Alabama,’’ Robicheaux said Monday afternoon. “I took him to see his mom today and they talked about it and he decided to stick with his commitment to Alabama.’’
Sentimore has been committed to Alabama for nearly four months since choosing the Tide on Oct. 5. He re-affirmed that commitment in January, issuing a quote of “Roll Tide!’’ He then suddenly decided near the end of last week to make an official visit to LSU this past weekend.
Sentimore attracted approximately 35 scholarship offers, including bids from Oklahoma, Auburn, Tennessee, Miami, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Nebraska, Michigan, Texas A&M and MississippiState.
In addition to Alabama and LSU, Sentimore also made an official visit to Arkansas on Oct. 31.

He told everyone he was coming to LSU this weekend. Only after the visit did he sit down with his coach and another guy before he "changed" his mind.

No message back yet... but a person very close with the Destrehan program (the voice of the fighting wildcats home football games) is an Alabama alum. I wouldn't be surprised if he was in Coach Robe and DS's ear telling him to honor his commitment. Sucks though, kid could have been a great Tiger imo.

I wonder sometimes if you are really a LSU fan by some of your posts.

It's dated 2:34 P.M. on February 2. Which is to say, about 20 minutes from now. It implies, arguably, but never says, that he had a scholarship offer from LSU. It lists a number of top schools from which he had offers. LSU is not on the list. Hard to know why he wouldn't get one from LSU, unless Les had concerns about grades or character, or unless making an offer was conditioned on his revoking his commitment to Alabama, which he clearly didn't do.

Do Bama fans continue to wonder why we dislike Saban so much? If he had never coached at LSU, he wouldn't have any contacts in the state and we would not have a battle for every top Louisiana kid. Bama fans are oh so smug about this and are loving it.
One day, these guys are going to see Saban for the charlatan that he is. If Sentimore doesn't start by his Jr. year, he'll develop a mysterious injury and will leave the team to make room for the next high school stud.
Man, I hate Alabama.

quote:Please read the whole story here before jumping to conclusions...DS was all LSU growing up..His bad grades kept the offer off the table. Saban took a chance, but I'd say Saban is more interested in opening a pipeline and helping his image than getting DS to play for him..
Hold up.........so every coach in Louisiana is susposed to be an LSU fan and tell their kids that LSU is the only place they need to be, regardless if it might be the best for their career or it is where deep down in their heart they feel that they need to be ? You're saying all Louisiana head football coaches are susposed recruiters for LSU now ?

After consultation with coaches and then with his parents, Sentimore decided to stick with his commitment and will sign with Alabama

Yea, and I hope no one really pressured him. But at the end of the day, if he does honor his commitment you can't really blame him. As a kid that is trying to really do the right things off the field now, that can be part of the step in the right direction.
The real shame might be that he made that commitment before he straightened his off the field situation out. If he would have just waited, everyone would be happy. Well, everyone but Saban.
