Really like this pickup by LSU. And for a number of reasons. High upside player, land a St. Aug OL, keep a Top 10 player in-state, etc.
I've glanced over the measurements for stuff like hands/wingspan for the nationally ranked OL and his is among the top. I won't be surprised at all if he's a consensus Top 10 OT prospect when the rankings all settle next January.
Really like that he's 6-5.5, 285. The other OL commit Mubenga is 6-3.5, 275 and likely interior guy. Then guys like Heard are right around 300, but I've seen him in person this summer and he's extremely well put together.
From talking around, and just watching guys they recruit and take, I think Kelly's arrival signifies the end of the days where half the guys are overweight and have to cut a bunch to get into shape to play in college. Trai Turner might be one of the only guys to successfully pull that off. Not really worth the risk when all the signs point to the best guys often being more athletic and in that 260-300 range in HS.

Yeah his wingspan really stands out when you look at him.
Thoughts on DJ Chester?

Love us not getting 340lb guys that we have to trim. Kid comes in at a slim 285 that we can mold to what he'd play best at.
St Aug continues to feed LSU handsomely.

I like the pick up for depth reasons with the possibility of him starting later in his career.
IMO he won't be starting at tackle over Campbell or Heard.
Good pick up

Seems like offensive line is always a banged up position.
Signing top 10 guys isn’t just for depth, I’m sure we will need 3/5 guys minimum in a rotation ready to play.

Good take. Better analysis here than from those recruiting hacks like that Shea Dickson guy or whoever.
