BIG BIG BIG BOOM!! Wonder what prompted him to commit because nobody was expecting this for atleast a little while as most thought this was going to be a fight with Florida, Texas, and ASU. Jacoby is 6'2" 193 lbs. Seems like the hiring of Mason Smith was the final straw here. Feel free to tell me if there's anything I should add.

Also plays basketball. Averaged 12.5 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore on the hardwood.
2020: Went both ways for a Green Wave team that went 7-2 and made second round of state playoffs. Started at QB. Accounted for 1,582 yards of offense and 13 touchdowns passing for 10 more.

Top247 prospect Jacoby Mathews played safety for the loaded Bootleggers defense but he could very well grow into a linebacker at the next level. He has immense potential given his long frame and ability to scan the field.

In the October update, the Ponchatoula (La.) High School standout came in at No. 162 overall in the Top247, which also put him 13th nationally among 2022 safety prospects. Safe to say he will ascend in the next 2022 update. Mathews excelled at The SHOW in late December to earn a spot among the top performers at the event. He followed that with another stellar performance about a month later at the Battle Miami tournament. In the 6-foot-1, 205-pound range, Mathews' strong junior campaign included impressive snaps on both sides of the ball, and he's already been known for his bounce on the basketball floor. Mathews is classified to the safety position for now, but admittedly seems like a good fit as a potential back-seven hybrid player, or perhaps even a more traditional off-ball linebacker in the long term, depending on his continued physical development. Mathews has reported about 30 offers, including Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and numerous others.

Crazy how fast things change in recruiting.

Ain't that the truth. All the reports were "He could go out of state easily" or "Texas and Florida are at the top"

I always figured he would be a Tiger, but I expected him to draw it out longer. This is a pleasant surprise.

Thought it might go the Chase route honestly. He would commit out of state but at the end stay home. This is a huge get this early in the cycle

Is anyone else's "dude" emoji flashing instead of head banging?

I don’t know why this thought is in my head, but are we converting him to LB or keeping him at safety?

I'm absolutely shocked he is committing this early
Makes me like him even more.
This will only help build momentum.
