26. Arizona Diamondbacks: OF Maurice Hampton, Memphis University HS (Tenn.)

A 4-star cornerback who is committed to play football and baseball at LSU, Hampton is expected to be an easier sign than fellow two-sport star Jerrion Ealy, per Jim Callis of MLB.com. Like most prep players who split their time between two sports, he's still raw, but the physical tools are there for him to develop into a five-tool center fielder. Again, the D-backs have a ton of picks and a lot of money to work with, making them a logical landing spot.

Yeah, I would guess that it's more likely than not that we lose him to MLB. I'm already resigned to it.

I mean, yeah it's possible he goes pro, but this mock draft doesn't mean shite. They don't actually know anything. Even the people that do know things admit that they only really have an idea for the first 7 or 8 picks.

he must of told ed o his plans.

I almost don't even get why lsu would risk signing him, when they couldve just replaced him with another 4 star

Well, the previous thought was obviously that we would likely get him to campus. I also have to think that a little bit of it was a favor to Mainieri, who would benefit tremendously if Hampton makes it to campus. Gotta keep peace in the athletic department and work together when possible.

Who knows maybe he’ll demand a ridiculous amount and end up on campus. If he goes in the first 2 rounds then he’s likely agreed to a contract.

Doesn’t really matter where he’s drafted, his family has the number they want. The club drafting him has to figure out how to draft the other 9 rounds and save some money.

Hard to pass that money up but if I had that kind of football talent, I would want to at least know my worth in football in 3 years before I choose a career in the minors riding buses for 4 years before getting a MLB chance.
The payout in football could be much greater over time with the athleticism he showed on a football field.

I get this isn’t the way on here. But I was way more excited about him for baseball than football if he comes

I’ve heard this asked, but I’ve never seen it answered before definitively.

Do we know for sure that he signed a true LOI that was sent in?

It might be hard to pass that money up. But the kid went to MUS. He already has money.
