When Shows took over at WM, the program was a laughing stock! He won a state championship in 4 years. Don't knock him for what he built.
Yeah I said that on page 3 of this thread. Still, I've always been an Arledge>>>>Shows guy. The state championships arrived when Arledge got here.

JJ27 +1
Shows always had a knack for good coaching, but Alredge, Sanders really solidified WM as a powerhouse. Again though West Monroe is a big school with alot of talent Hasn't done most with the least unless they would have won 13 straight state titles and 6-7 national titles.

Not just because of defense though. Arledge got to West Monroe in the 3rd year of Shows's tenure. God himself wouldn't have won a championship at West Monroe in Shows's first 2 years.
Either way, Shows hired Arledge. Kinda like Saban hired Jimbo Fisher.
Being around West Monroe's program, you should know that Arledge skims off of the top and Shows takes the rest. There have been many, many, many D-linemen that were better than any of the o-linemen on their respective teams. Not so much the other way around.
Also, Shows didn't have Arledge at Pineville.

Still, Arledge has devised gameplans to stop some of the best backs in the world with less talent than he was playing against. Shows is a smart leader in that he surrounds himself with great coaches.

He could've left OG years ago for better paying jobs in Texas. I wonder if he ever regrets that.

Lalande at South Cameron always had superbly coached teams. Played against them throughout high school and they were consistently the most well prepared and disciplined team we played every year. There has been a lot of love for coaches at big schools but he would win the small school award.

Nah, it's still Dalrymple.

He didn't win one at Pineville or JH. JH played John Curtis in the 1977 State Championship game only to lose that game. It was the last game played at the Old Tulane Stadium. He didn't win a state championship until he got to WM. He has won 2 state championships with what some would consider meager talent: 1993 and 1996. 1993 they came out of no where beating periennial powers Ruston, Carencro, and St. Aug. 1996 was also a "rebuilding year" where they were picked to finish last in district. They went undefeated in district for the first time in the schools history and behind Tommy Banks beat Carencro in the state championship. So Shows is a great coach but an even better delegator. That's the sign of a great coach. And he wins even when he's not suppose to.

Best HS coach in Louisiana
Sharkfin, just where do you think ND is? It's in Crowley. Not exactly a metropolitan area. Most of those kids playing at ND are from farm families and they also learn hard work from working on farms. Notre Dame doesn't have an endless supply of athletes like schools from the large cities.
Getting back to Lew Cook, he coached my son at Crowley High to a state championship in 1989. And he did it without one player that year getting a D-1 offer. Just a bunch of average, overacheiving kids that worked hard. My son played on that team so I know firsthand how good of a coach Cook is. I never had to worry about where my son was and I will always be gratefull to coach Cook for that reason.
Brent Indest is the same kind of coach. He will be successful wherever he goes.
