Most have been complimentary of his recruiting.

or coach
Still TBD. He's 31-35 (11-25) at LSU.
Getting players is one part of the battle. Getting them to produce on-court results is the other. Hopefully this is the year that starts to come to fruition. But until it does there is a reasonable basis to remain skeptical.

You are a solid poster & I agree you don’t crown the guy just yet.
That said, this is validation for everyone who by midseason last year said to let the man cook.
He hasn’t had a year here yet where we haven’t drastically improved in both recruiting and performance on the court. This will be the most complete roster he has had yet, and will very likely be the best season he has had here yet.
Trending the right direction.

Long way to go and a lot of uncommitted prospects but things are definitely looking good!

His first recruiting class was solid if you go by the rankings (which I assume everyone is doing in lauding the current group of commitments). The second class was small (2 players) and not ranked as high. So I don't know if you can factually say "He hasn’t had a year here yet where we haven’t drastically improved in recruiting"
The "improved" on court performance is a little disingenuous. You don't get credit for being better than an absolutely horrible year by a team that shouldn't have been that bad. It kind of like mayor Sharon Weston Broome celebrating the "improvement" in the EBR homicide numbers a year after setting a record for the most homicides in parish history. Yes, year two was an "improvement" relative to the prior year. But it was still a top 5 year in terms of most homicides.
Yes, LSU was better last year. But it wasn't a high bar to be better than an absolutely awful performance for which you were responsible.
This year is a significantly new team with 7 new players that didn't play a minute for LSU last season. It was encouraging that after a bad non-conf. performance where LSU looked no better than the year before they were able to right the ship and have a respectable SEC performance. But that doesn't guarantee success the following year in a sport where the rosters change so dramatically from year to year. The hope is that with a manageable non-conf. schedule and now McMahon's third trip through the SEC he fully has a grasp on what it takes to win at this level and the program is ready to take off. But until that happens I'm not ready to fully say "everything is pointing in the right direction". It MIGHT be. But again, recruiting is one thing. Getting results from those guys is the other. McMahon hasn't fully proven he can do that yet. This is his opportunity to do so.

It's very unlikely LSU finishes #2 when it's all said and done because most of the top 25 prospects are uncommitted. But if he can land Cenac, it will almost assuredly be a top 10 class, with a real possibility of ending in the top 5

Been said before but we finished 500 in the league last year after being picked to finish last. If we lay an egg I’ll change my tune, but I am optimistic about this season.
