He told Auburn coaches to leave Benton alone. If a high school coach in Alabama did that to LSU coaches recruiting a kid in Alabama, how would you feel?

I don't know anyone in Bastrop or have any inside info.

BUT, if LSU and others have to struggle so mightily to get Benton qualified, does anyone for one second believe that he will be able to stay eligible?

He should probably just work out on his own and try to apply to the NFL draft next year. No way he's able to survive academically at LSU based on what we've seen.

When I said BS, I wasn't trying to deny that it was true. I was really saying that this high school coach sucks, IMO.

Benton's been committed to LSU for three recruting seasons now. Your coaches may have fudged up any chance of getting Bastrop players by going after Benton. They had a golden opportunity with the new staff to build a relationship with Bradshaw. Big, huge mistake on their part.

Benton is not just some kid in Louisiana that Auburn coaches are recruiting.

He has signed with LSU twice and LSU has stood by him for two years while he gets his shite straight.

This is very similar to a prep school protecting a player who placed there.

Fantastic. To bad that doesn't mean anything. Auburn had Enrique Davis committed to them for three recruiting seasons as well, and he ended up going to Ole Miss.

im actually with the bayou bengals on this one. While I would LOVE to have him at AU, LSU has been trying to help this kid since high school. it would be different if this were the kids first year out of HS, but its not. I wish more coaches were like this. In particular Jermaine Johnson's. JMO though.

You also, totally changed your offensive system to one that Davis wasn't suited for.

I found the story about DeAngelo Benton in the Baton Rouge Advocate. They did a story about the recruiting situation of several Louisiana prospects, including Ruben Randle, Eddie Lacy, and DeAngelo Benton. Here is the link.

commitment just doesnt mean the same thing nowadays. it sucks seeing us losing players, and then not being able to get some in the same position. again, I would absolutley love to see him in O&B, but I really wish more coaches were like that.

Just to clarify. Coach Bradshaw has not just been his coach either. Coach Bradshaw has taken DeAngelo back to Bastrop, worked with him himself. Looked after his grades, made sure he got his work done. Allowed him to practice with the team while he tried to get eligible. Bradshaw is looking out for Benton. The last thing he needs is for other coaches to come in, take DeAngelo out to wine and dine him and confuse the kid any more. He is trying to look after him and make sure he makes the right decisions. And I don't think going to visit Auburn one week before signing day, and spurning LSU who has been there for him for a couple of years now is in the best interests of DeAngelo, no matter how you slice it.

Yeah, if you're an Auburn fan. As an LSU fan, I'm ecstatic.

Lacy is scheduled to visit Knoxville this weekend. Saia said the running back might visit LSU instead.

“He’s going to take one more visit,” Saia said. “I think where he takes it is still in the works.”

I hope Eddie Lacy decides to give us a look.

Was it BS when LSU was going after Brandon Jacobs years ago? His Juco coach pretty much did the exact same thing.

Of course not because Auburn benefited from that

Specs, this was the same thing that was said about Brandon Jacobs and he stayed qualified the whole time he attended Auburn.

I would feel like the coach likes AU better than LSU and thought his player would be better off at AU. I wouldnt think it was BS that the coach was supporting his in-state university though.
