That's were the kid wanted to go, he more of a quite kid, come from a good home. Going to school out of state is better for his life after basketball.

Honest question: If you had to bet money on who has a better college career, who would you pick: Deng or Jones?

I'm picking Deng.

Jones is just a bunch of potential at this point. That could change, and I hope it does for him. I wish him nothing but the best. However, Deng is a year older, similar size, can handle the ball and shoot.

How hard did we recruit Jones? I never got the sense that he was high on LSU's priority list. It always seemed liked Martin and all the Texas guys were more coveted.

He had an offer and I'm sure LSU wanted him and would take him. But he's raw and would likely not be of immediate help. From what I've heard, they liked Shepherd and the JUCOs more.

I gotcha. If we land Martin and Mickey all will be forgotten. Martin still plans on waiting until the spring to sign correct and Mickey wants to sign in the fall?

Where would you rank LSU's chances of landing those 2?

For Mickey, I think it is between LSU, SMU and Ohio State. With LSU getting the first official, and his brother being here, I have to think we are the favorite. I don't know that though. Just my opinion.

For Martin, I think LSU is definitely the favorite and Johnny Jones is using all of his LSU/Louisiana forces to bear on his recruitment. Don't be surprised to see a foreign player, possibly an Aussie, land at Madison Prep as a thank you.

Kid would have gone to Georgia tech or purdue if that engineering ploy was true.

That is what he said. All this other stuff is not coming from him, that I have seen.

Jones told Rivals.com. "I just like the players and coaches the campus and the city of Nashville is really nice."

vandy does have a nice track record the last few years and have had some athletic frontcourt players. after spending most of his life in north BR maybe he just wants to get away from home.

No doubt Vandy has much nicer neighbors than LSU.

He is an awesome kid and ranked 2nd in senior class academically. Super nice, respectful kid. I taught him. Its truly about the academics for him. He has been overshadowed by other all state players on the same team. He will be a monster this year. With nutrition and conditioning at the college level he will be a good one.
