Damian Jones has picked up offers from LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Florida. He’s hearing from Vanderbilt, Stanford, Louisville and Georgetown.

From Scout. This was at the EYBL tournament in Oakland this weekend.

Titans went 4-2 in this tournament and Jones averaged 6.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. He had a couple of games where he had 3 or 4 blocks. Disappears sometimes offensively but is a presence down low .

He's pretty raw, but has a lot of potential. He plays on a loaded team, so his stats will always appear unimpressive.

His athleticism on the defensive end alone make him an intriguing player. He's better than Tyrus was at this same point, but there are some similarities there. Jones seems like a guy that could contribute quicker than TT (redshirt). Offer list is far superior to TT as well. I know it's lazy to just pick a little known prospect from BR that came to LSU and became a lottery pick and make a comparison, but it seems apt in this case.
It's sort of a perfect storm for us. LA is loaded for LA standards, TX is loaded, and we have a full year for our coaches to hit the trail and land some big name guys. I have no clue what it looks like come next year, but hard to imagine we're not on cloud 9 based on what this staff has done already.

I agree with all your comments. I almost made the Tyrus comparison myself.
As far as the 2013 class, I fully expect a top 10 recruiting class. With the prospects from Louisiana and Texas, along with a few national recruits we are involved with, Johnny would have to whiff pretty bad not to have an elite class.

After an unofficial visit to LSU, Jordan Mickey recently took unofficials to Louisville and Kentucky. He has about 40 offers.

At least the competition for his signature won't be tough for us.

Update story on Martin.
Two things I learned from this story: Martin is really good, and Ron Briscoe hates to use the possessive form when writing.

Looks like you're right about "Coach Jones" running the show. Wonder where Coach Jones will decide his star player will go to school. Basketball recruiting is so horrible.

I feel really good about LSU getting Martin. As his coach says in the article, he is a once in a lifetime player for a small school coach like him. He will have to make the most of this opportunity.
I am not saying there will be money changing hands or anything like that. Simply that sending his best player to LSU will pay dividends to him for years to. I doubt he's planning on moving to Louisville or somewhere else.
Having Martin at LSU will give him access to the program, along with Collis and his ilk sending future players to Madison Prep to help him out.

Good perspective. But you juts wonder if these coaches see it that way or if they are waiting for another coach at another program to give him more. Nothing would surprise me.

Karviar Shepherd unofficially visited UCLA this past weekend. He compared himself to Tim Duncan in an interview on the UCLA site.

Do you think it'll be a LSU/Alabama battle for Martin or do you expect Arizona and Louisville to be serious contenders as well?

We're all optimistic that Jones can recruit and LA and TX are stacked next year but with basketball recruiting there is still a lot of uncertainty with guys so who knows. If it was the last staff I would bet that he would be gone. But with the current staff, right now, I'm pretty optimistic that we ca land both Jones and Martin. We'll see though. I don't think I saw Jones list us in the last article, but that sort of thing happens a lot. Didn't Martin just go visit Bama and what have y'all heard?
Posted on 6/10/12 at 11:19 am to Tiger Authority
In an article, Martin said he wanted to visit us in the next week or two but I don't know if he has or not. And are you talking about Damien Jones? I think the recent top three his listed was Alabama, Vandy, and Florida. That probably means either LSU isn't recruiting him that hard or just hasn't offered yet.

We're recruiting Jones. I don't know where he is on our list but he plays on the same AAU team as Julius Randle who we're recruiting (likely a pipe dream but you never know) as well. The talent this year in LA is better than it's been in quite some time. TJ was a poor recruiter and evaluator, to some extent, but he was also plagued by a really down couple of years for LA basketball. This year Baton Rouge is very strong, and next year New Orleans is thought to be strong. And there are a couple of 9th graders in BR that are going to be ridiculous when their time comes. So the talent pool in LA is going to be strong for the next few years and Jones is thought to be a very good recruiter. So I feel pretty good at this early stage.
We had 3-4 top 100 kids in town a few weeks ago and that was more than we managed to get on campus in four years with TJ. karviar sepherd. jordan mickey. kendal harris. and I believe shimane thomas.

Jones seems like a great kid. In the latest article I posted on our board, he said he wasn't worried about playing time or anything like that. He just wanted to pick a school with a good engineering program and go from there.
