Honestly I don't think anyone knows how it's working but it is. The Bama recruiting thread has good views of how they're working it out.

The word is that Tyson and the kicker are on scholarship but some rule about players leaving prior to fall camp exemption. Also 2 players from the last class didn't actually sign. One was a nonqualifier. Regardless, they have the numbers they have and essentially 2 spots. To'oto and the DL that they get. Seems to be between Pickering, Sopsher, Fuller, Sorrells and some northern kid.

If one of the recruits signed but didn't show up then they still lose that spot. Same issue we have with Hampton, if he signs with us then goes to the MLB we still lose that spot (towards the 25 not the 85) even if he never shows up on campus.

If it's legal, which it must be, then everyone has a shot at it. Bama is not the only program that would know how to stroke it !

It's not the same as Hampton at all. This is a little complex but I'll give it a try. First, there are actually 2 different 25 limit rules:

o The limit everybody talks about now is the signing limit of 25, where like you said, if you sign you count whether you show up or not.

o The second limit is the old initial counter limit of 25. This still exists. With this one you don't count unless you show up.

Now by definition now, every initial counter has to be a signer. But Parks not counting (if I'm right about him) kind of throws a wrench into this equality. You would have one more initial counter than signers and it would control how many you could sign.

But since not every signer has to be an initial counter, the fact that one of the signers never showed up means that balance was restored. Like I said my point is a little complicated, but hopefully this clarifies it.

Maybe an example will clarify:

Last year Bama signed 22 not including Parks, so they have room for 28 this year, but...

If all 22 had showed up along with Parks, their initial counter total would have been 23, limiting them to 27 total regardless of the signing limit. That didn't happen since one of the 22 didn't show up and we're back to 28.

Didn’t you watch 60 minutes a couple years ago ? If he runs out of spots he will pull some other player scholarship to open one up. Been doing it for years.

Chris Davenport

That's a name from the past. Or how about "Freak". He was underwhelming as well even though he played quite a few more snaps than Davenport.

I just hope he is not another RP or Russel Sheppard.

Russel Sheppard was productive when he touched the ball and had a career in the NFL something most never do.

I get that Sheppard was highly rated QB from HS and never played a down for LSU at that position but the guy was an ambassador for LSU, was a team player worth the scholly

I'm more than happy to say Freak was worth the scholly and all the disappointment when he teabagged Johnny Football in College Station.

Alabama got a transfer last year , LSU got 2. LSU can't back count those 2 but it seems that Alabama didn't lose 1 when they got 1.

I'm not familiar with Bama's roster, but details matter. There are circumstances where transfers wouldn't count. Who is it, and what's their story?

Seems like one of their players got hurt and they got a linebacker from Cali. to transfer. I can't remember the name off the top of my head.
