It seems we are competing with Bama for a number of players down the stretch, e.g. Sophser, Pickering, etc.

Bama is also heavily involved with Henry To'oto'o and Darnell Wright.

According to this they have 24 signed LOI's and 4 commitments, bringing their total to 28 for 2019. That is what I have seen posted as being their limit.

So how they heck can they still take Sophser, To'oto'o and/or Wright?

I am starting to think we get Sophser because of his brother etc, I am just worried he wont pan out because he has not looked like his star evaluation.

I just hope he is not another RP or Russel Sheppard.

Well, they have 28 full schollies to give this year.

They have 24 signatures as of right now.

Two of their current signees are in line to accept grey shirts.

That leaves (6) signatures left that they can take.

Weird choice of players to use there. Chris Davenport would've been a better comparison.

It was answered, but I forget...someone else had this info a couple of days ago. I know the kicker was one of them.

Yeah. RP could play. He was just a knucklehead.

Shepard could play also. Maybe not quite to the level of his recruiting ranking, but he contributed. He also did not have a very innovated offensive brain-trust figuring out how to use him. He's carved out a 6 year NFL career.

Al Woods is a better comp. He was the 12th ranked player overall and #1 DT in his class. Yet, he did virtually nothing at LSU until his Senior year

Shepard was a uniques situation. He did not have the total skill set to play QB and ther were better ones ahead of him. The WR and RB positions were deep and talented so his chances were limited.

Whether Sopsher lives up to his ranking remains to be seen, but even if not LSU will get a very good player who will contribute a lot . Remember Anthony Johnson was similarly ranked and did not beocme as dominant as projected. He was still a very good productive player at LSU. Les hope we ge Sopsher and he develops into the player the scouts project him to be.

Recruiting is not a star or bust equation. I fhe was the number 80 prospect and # 6 defensive tackle from Winnsboro wew ould all be rejoicing if he committed.

In 2017 Jarez Parks attempted to commit to Bama on NSD on live TV, but ended up crying and saying he wasnt ready to decide. Turns out he told Bama he was coming and they said we don't have enough room. He ended up accepting a gray shirt and signing anyway.

In 2018 they signed 22, add Parks from the gray shirt the year before and that puts them at 23.

That would leave them with 2 additional spots for the 2019 class. 27.

Now they are either blatantly ignoring the gray shirt from 2017 and doing what they want, or they are going to have to get creative with some gray shirts this year, which sounds like they already have in the works.

Honestly, I don't think Parks should count in last year's signing numbers. He's different from the other EEs, since he is really part of the prior class which was under a different set of rules. He probably would have signed a grey shirt offer sometime around signing day and he's part of the same academic year. Now he's still an initial counter and that would have limited them, but according to 247 one of those 22 signees didn't show up so they are still okay.

Not sure about this. 247 shows that both of them are already enrolled. can you early enroll with the others and greyshirt?

Possible, but unlikely imo. To greyshirt (i.e. to preserve their eligibility clock from starting) they would have to attend at most part time and not be part of the football team. Unlikely someone would do that if they can be an EE. Most likely they are willing to walkon and pay their own way for a year. If they do that they would never count against the 25 limit.
