Florida tried the same thing. Surtain Sr nixed it. He's a smart guy and doesn't want to play that crap.

Surtain said told BamaInsider.com. “To be a DB coach at Alabama would be a tremendous honor. Eventually it may happen, but I guess it wasn’t the right time.”

Haha right. OP probably doesn’t realize Surtain couldn’t go there if he was hired.

You want the top recruit in the country just keep that extra coaching spot open for a parent of the top rated football player on your board.

Pay the kids parent for one years worth of work and then let them go. That is what is going to happen sooner rather than later in college football.

If Surtain sr was hired to an onfield position it is allowed. If an analyst position it is not.

Exactly. If he was hired as on field coach, his son could sign there. The rule is pretty clear

Well shite, I thought I read the whole thing the first time. I also didn’t realize the rule only applied to off field positions. Makes sense, considering on field coaching positions are more important than one recruit, no matter their ranking.

Well, in this case the father is a legit DB coach who played the position in the NFL and was a pro bowler.

nick wouldn't have been hiring some bum.

shite, Alabama knows, especially saban. Any chance they have to get a kid that LSU wants is a priority for them. Not only can they sign a player that's a difference maker for their program, but saban knows that it would be huge to take a player that LSU wants. He has always done that bc he knows the threat that LSU poses to his program at bama. Saban coached here and knows the talent that is produced here. Any way that he can sign a player that we want, he's going to do whatever it takes to hinder our program.

“That was the first thing I mentioned to Coach Saban,” the older Surtain said. “I told him I didn’t want it contingent on where Pat [Surtain Jr.] comes there or not. That wouldn’t be fair to him. [Saban] assured me that it wasn’t. He interviewed me because he thought I’d be a great defensive backs coach.”

Scared...nah

But we're definitely one of their tougher games since 2005.

Should have won in '12 and '14, as well.
