I asked that on the SEC recruiting board, Bama fans say that they can take 30 this year.... They also say that two of their kids are willing to grey shirt because they want to go to Bama so badly

Saban will take away about 75 from his rivals and pick the best 30 or 40 and throw the rest away.

The NCAA allows them to sign 85 per year, but they only are allowed 300 football scholarships per year.

is there no limit on early enrollies? Also isn't the most you can count back is 3 (if you have room for 3 in last years class)? I guess you can take as many grey shirts as you want but they count towards next years class.

It's a modification of the old Bear Bryant oversigning strategy. Until they enforce a rigid yearly cap, with maybe a catchup year every 3 or 4 - they will do this.

Just seems unreal, you really have to wonder about the legality of what's going on there...surely a lot of these kids realize they will not see the field...
