Scout and Rivals said Drew Brees would never play QB anywhere......AJ's got a deal so he doesn't care what they say. Hard to tell from anything other than defense in allstar games. We all know Olines have to have time together to be in sync and no oline means poor QB production and no WR receptions...

First let me say that I like the talent Avery has and think he can be very good. The recruiting analysts this week that spoke on him all said talent is not his problem or the question.

That said he has had a terrible year this year. Had a terrible camp circuit, terrible season and terrible all star week. His stock should be down. Based on his performances this year in any setting he shouldn't be ranked anywhere near the top 250 or 300. His talent should be but what good is talent if the kid doesn't maximize it? He doesn't have PP's work ethic or desire to be great. PP wanted to be the best at everything he did and worked to be just that. Avery basically has lived off his name and previous years performances. Imo if he weren't PP's brother and so hyped over the years, a lot more LSU fans would be asking the question "why did we take this guy". None of our other commits have had a worse year than Avery.

A "bump in your calvins"? You seem like the type to get a bump from a teen age boy...

I will be honest I was wondering were AJ was. It didnt seem like he showed up fot the Under Armor game. In my opinion I think he just didnt take it serious. Dont forget AJ has been around all this stuff before when his brother was going through it. I just think he was like "f it i am just here to hang out" He will be fine. When he gets on campas he will shine.

Allsports-Excellent post! And this is very important for all of us to remember. These young men have one week to learn the offense/defense and get use to teammates on both sides of the ball. Some have great games because of great plays, and others with a combination of great plays and a little bit of luck. And yes, there are obvious good plays.
The point is- it is not the right thing to do to "throw out the baby with the bathwater." The All-Star games are are have "elite" players come in and play a game together to receive recognition for their high school and future collegiate careers. These kids have talent. They would not be invited if they did not.
In these games, sheeut happens! If one plays "a bad game," it doesn't dictate their collegiate career- and I guarantee you that the players/recruits don't care much about their rankings at this point. It's a number...
The other thing that you all may not know is that most of the time, in these All-Star games- the "starters" are determined by coin-toss, draw names out of the hat, etc. In other words- if you have a great week of practice for "that" particular game. So never be surprised if somebody "starts" the game, and others do not. It makes sense- everyone plays..
Give them a break- a "pat on the back" for their accomplishments and wish them the best in the future!

(Except when/if they are playing LSU...)

Kid will be fine, all he needs is TM's program to give him a little more bulk, he has everything else covered.

gosh, if we could only compete with bama. their talent is so much better than ours. we have no r.c. national championships, no way we can compete with bama.

Rankings mean nothing with a kid like Avery. He is going to be great at LSU

Avery made a good catch on the ball that was thrown behind him. These qbs were not spectacular. i think he will make his mark at LSU before he leaves.

Dude! How do you know this? AJ plays on the offensive side of the ball so it's harder to dominate at the WR position if he has a quarterback who can't get him the ball. By contrast it is somewhat easier to dominate on the defensive side of the ball b/c PP was not affected by any specific player as much. If you can recall, PP7 didn't do much in the Army AM game either yet he dominated at LSU. Just layoff the Man and see how much work ethic he has. With the QB's on this roster, he will dominate!

Think about this. Kenny Hillard looked like poo poo in last years all-star game. I am also pretty sure he didn't look good at the practices. How did that work out for us? Kenny was an EE last year. Got a head start working out with college coaches and you can see the result. I also think out of any of the younger players Kenny has the most upside. He hasn't even touched his full potential. Physically he could still drop about 10lbs and get harder.

I wouldn't put that much stock into all star games.

No kidding. How many times durin the game were the shotgun snaps to the QB so slow that the DE's had already beaten the OT before the QB even caught the ball? It's kind of tough for a QB to go through any progression when he doesn't even have time to get his feet under him.
