There isn't a lower value position on a football team than the full-back, it's the truth. NFL draft supports this notion. Maybe if you want to count the long-snapper...

Depends on the offense. If you have an offense that utilizes two-back sets, then a good FB can be crucial. Lorenzo Neal deserves partial credit for the rushing yardage of some of the NFL's finest RBs.

And just Clean is fine. I ain't his buddy.

BTW, I know it's anal, but I don't want to listen to some shite later about me supposedly saying this or that. We all know how it can unfold around here.

The only offense I can think of where the FB is not the lowest value position for is the triple option where a FB is very key. Other than that, it's really not that important. An average guy can fill in and get the job done just fine.

Would you consider it waste if it meant we couldn't get one out of.. Loston, Mingo, McFarland, Richardson/Michael Debose/Appleton/Wooten or Randle?

As much as I would love to have all those guys, its very unlikely and i think we'll at least miss out on one. Of course those guys are a prority over Singleton due to them all haveing offers and Singleton not. If Les decides to offer him, then he is definetly a priority. The coaches see things that we don't.

How many teams use a true fullback? New Orleans... San Diego... and... Maybe there are a couple more, but most teams run a lot of ace sets or 2-TE sets.

most NFL teams carry a fullback...probably all of them actually

Maybe it's just me but I see no reason why we need to give out a full scholly to a FB in this class considering how many schollies we have left to give and who is interested in coming here.

i'm all for picking up an athletic FB, but this isn't the year considering the talent out there and the limited spaces. between this and the kicker i'm wondering if the staff is planning on taking more recruits than people expect

I think they are looking for a short yardage speacialist more than a blocker for our damn fine backs.

Plus another consideration is if there are more players coming from that school. We all know Les is a stand up guy, so he may feel keeping good ties with the coach is more important than a slight bit of talent.

I don't follow the NFL nearly as much as I used to, and you may very well be right there Lester, but the vast majority of NFL teams do not run I-Formation or Split 2-Back formations anymore. They use fullbacks the same way we used Joe Barksdale last year for key short yardage and goalline situations.

Um, that's exactly what we did with Quinn Johnson. LB switched to FB and now look how good he is. It's not a high value position, sorry, just the truth.

Actually, Quinn Johnson was recruited as a LB/FB. He was a stand-out at both in high school. He was tried at LB first and then moved to FB. I don't really have a position on this argument, except to point out that Quinn Johnson was not just some big kid that got stuck in there at FB. He had some experience at the position. Check out his BIO.

Thanks Bubba. Now I don't look like too much of an idiot for my previous comments.

Point is he was a LB at LSU for his first 2 years here, and WAS recruited to be a LB, he just ended up at FB because we needed another one outside of Jordan. It's really not hard to learn the FB position. Anyone with any sort of brain matter can pick it up in no time.

So we really don't need to recruit linebackers, just a bunch of fullbacks and move them over?

What does that have anything to do with what I said?

I was a former FB, it's an easy position to learn. Easily the easiest on offense.

Learning it and executing it are two different things. You have to have the talent.

And you don't have to be overly talented to execute it well. Between Ridley, Scott, Edwards and Theriot we have more than enough talent to execute it for years to come after this one...
