"Shepard is a true dual-threat quarterback who has the ability to score at any given moment. He reads defenses well on pass plays and runs in-and-out of defenders with ease. He possesses great speed (4.4 40-yards) and quickness and makes good decisions out of the shotgun. But what really makes Shepard a top-notch player is his leadership. He allows his teammates to make plays and manages the team efficiently - Alan Zepeda, Scout.com"

Man this guy is going to be amazing. I know a lot of people think it's Lee next year and he should get Hatch's reps.. but I think he can win open competition and would love to see Shep run the spread offense full time from day one.

Alright, I'll be "that" guy.

Agreed on PP.

Baker should be playing WLB RIGHT THE frick NOW. KS is somewhere between terrible and awful. I don't care how good he "looks in pads". Baker can actually tackle someone.

quote:

Karnell Hatcher has surprised many LSU fans. I can honestly say he was my "sleeper" of the 2008 class, but even I am surprised he was not redshirted and is seeing the amount of PT as he is this year. As long as he plays his appropriate position (SS), I think he will be fine. If he is forced into a Nickelback/FS position he is destined to fail--think Danny McCray part #2.

Everytime I saw Hatcher today... he was playing NB. Essentially, he's taken McCray's spot.

quote:

Deangelo Peterson is going to be the next stud WR -- just look at him.

Why? Look at Patrick Turner, David Ausberry and Vidal Hazelton. Man, they look great in pads. What have they ever done?

quote:

(Taylor's gone after this year...who plays FS after him? Everyone that comes to mind should play SS, not FS).

Why? Laron wasn't spectacular in coverage. He was a better blitzer/run support guy. Solid in coverage.

Stefoin Francois is perfectly suited for FS.
Phelon Jones could make the transition (they have to find some way to get this guy on the field).

quote:

We are moving more and more towards an 'express' package. It looks like this was designed for Mingo and Brokers coming off the edge. I know Mingo wants to play OLB, but he could be a stud coming off the edge, in a position where speed is needed.

Brockers will be around 275-280 by the time he plays. Not really a "speed rush" type of player.

Rahim Alem is easily the best DL on this team at this point in time? Most talented. Not a chance. But he's playing the best football. he reminds me a lot of UCLA standout Bruce Davis. Not great size, but tremendous effort and tremendous speed.

RJF is NOT a 1st round pick anymore. He's done next to nothing this year.

IMO, every defensive weakness we have illustrated stems from poor DL play. Sans Alem and Jackson on off games... they've been wretched. Getting manhandled by a porous Georgia o-line today and an average Florida o-line a couple weeks ago is a total indictment on their play. Bottom line is, the guys we thought were good aren't as good as we thought.... now whether that is coaching or performance or what... I don't know...

AJ Green broke Hatcher's ankles.

i know he is just a FR, but he lacked agressveness. He wasnt impressive.

Might as well cut his head off because he didnt know what he was doing out there.

i applaud the effort though

KS isn't the one missing that tackles...cutrera and DB are...Knowshon doesn't make that td if DB stays with the play when Coleman tries to lunge at Knowshon...granted poor tackling by Coleman but DB stays with he isn't trying to run him down from behind...agreed dline is bad..alem is the only one making a good pass rush and Tyson has been solid but everyone else should be ashamed....and a Ryan Baker and KS tandem at linebacker would be good to see.I remeber last year KS was making some very good plays on special teams and everyone talking about him. He is tall and pretty fast but does need some more weight....he made a great hit last week on the dump to HB and another one yesterday....good post Lynx

just my opinion. Darry beckwith is not himself this year. He is way too slow to be on the field. Kelvin shep. has know Idea what he is doing and the same goes for curtis taylor. Harry coleman should be a LB as should chad jones.Rahim Alem is the only one on the D-line that plays with intensity. We should not be murdered on so many Deep passes and enormous rushing plays. I think something is missing from our practices or our Def. coordinators have no clue in what they are doing. Any way we can pay Bo to come back? But then again most of us knew we could lose 3 games this yr. So we are right on track.

I don't know that Alem is the only one with intensity but rather he's just got crazy speed off the edge.

ETA: How is this guy just getting to be a constant in the rotation? I know he played last year, but I don't remember seeing him on the field this much.

I agree Darry is not himself this year..he is out of pos. and not getting to the ball but too slow...did you see him run step for step behind Knowshon...step for step!!!It isn't speed but pos.

Mike Bobo made Mallory and Peveto his little co-bitches. They were totally out coached. Every time we blitzed they were ready for it. Stafford was picking apart our D and we continued to send our corners and safties and got torched!!!
Oh yeah and Al Woods SUCKS!!!!

Speaking of Hatcher, where in the hell was Chad Jones when Hatcher was playing FS?

Why is chad not a FS?

If he is the backup SS, do you people realize he will not be a starter until his SENIOR SEASON!!!!

We have a great coaching staff!!!!!

Here are my thoughts and observations of the game. JL and AH are back up quarterbacks at best. Charles Scott reminds me of Duece McCallister, hard to bring down with the first tackle. It really drives me nuts that with all this offensive talent, that our qb's are killing it.
Defensively, we are overrated. The Dline is getting manhandled. Al Woods is plain and simple, to slow and lazy. Charles Alexander is nt living up to the hype. Darry Beckwith is probably playing with some type of injury because he is not up to speed, playing really slow. Jai Eugene is definetly living up to the hype he had coming out of high school. He is our Jason David. Chad Jones needs to realize that it takes more than talent, it takes classwork and effort. Patrick Peterson is a freshman and is playing great. He is making the freshman mistakes but he has stepped up to the level of competition. Our LBs are afraid to make the hits or make plays, Michael Brooks would be ashamed.

i have to disagree, we have the speed at each position...however its the horrible coaching that is putting players out of position

Harry Coleman plugs the whole like the SS is supposed to do on this play...plain and simple our guys were not put into the right positions to win yesterday. We blitzed at the wrong times and did a horrible job of disguising our defense. I cant remember the exact play, but we had Taylor come up in coverage on a flat route already covered by PP or CH and left Coleman to cover a corner route that should be covered by Taylor...I think the coaches aren't putting our guys in a position to win

If this thread was created to take away the pain of this year's underachievement on the field and look to a brighter future, the goal was somewhat successful.

I still say that a lack of talent does not exist. I think the problems this year are beyond the scope of talent. If the best talent in the country lands at LSU, will the problematic causes of the enept performances still exist in the future.

The thread did, however, make me look to the fututre and forget the present for a moment, before I realized all the talent in the world might not solve some of the existing problems.

Where has Kirston Pittman gone? He was making plays last year. I agree that Tyson Jackson has not shown up in the 2 big games this year, Florida and Georgia. I think Beckwith, Alexander, and Francois are still not at 100%. They have not been playing up to their capability. Peterson is something special. Can you imagine him next year or in 2 years? I would like to see Chad Jones moved to LB. You can see that he is a playmaker, but he doesn't have the cover skills.

Charles Scott looked very good yesterday as did Keiland. What happened to the Scott at fullback and Williams at halfback formation? We were running the ball at will yesterday. We should have continued to pound the ball with Scott, Keiland, Murphy, and Holliday. I want to know why they didn't give Keiland the ball until the 4th quarter. I think our offensive line played well yesterday.

I think Lee should be very worried with Jordan Jefferson behind him and with Shepard coming in. I know he is a Freshman and he is going to make mistakes. The pass to Keiland yesterday when he took off to run and tossed it right over the defender's head was a good play. People have compared him to Brett Favre and I don't think it is a bad reference, especially on that play. He looks like a gunslinger to me. We have so much talent on the offensive side of the ball, Crowton needs to find a way to get them the ball without exposing our QB. Hatch is not an SEC caliber QB (while I admire his drive) and Lee has a ways to go.

I believe that the co-defensive coordinators is part of our problem. I am hoping that Miles decides to hire Jon Tenuta as the defensive coordinator next year. He was a good defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech and he has said in the past that he has no desire to be a head coach. He could stay with Miles as long as he is here. He would get better talent here at LSU. He is currently the assistant head coach and linebacker coach at Notre Dame.

This team has a lot of holes to fix and I am afraid that we won't get them fixed until next year. We should have beat Georgia yesterday. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot and killing the momentum. I was thinking we would beat Bama at home, but after that game yesterday, I am not so sure.

As for the future, I continue to be very optimistic. I don't see the lack of skill from Chad Jones, i personally think he could still play in a laron landry type of mold(lots of blitz, run support) and his defense on the fade was perfect, just a great throw and a great catch, nothing he can do. And just a question, what is the scouting report on what Chancey Agayhere(spelling way off i believe) is going to do. I heard he had good potential, and with Tyson Jackson out after this year we could use another DE

Tenuta will not be coming here. Miles interviewed him last year and it didn't go well. Notice he didn't get ANY offers from anyone besides ND? Rumors are the guy is a world class dick and tends to cause dissention on the staff ala Tony Franklin. Look how well that worked out.
