Four from Louisiana's 2027 class shine at UA Future 50 event
247Sports was on hand and left impressed with the Louisiana contingent.
Sonny Shipp
Some of the top prospects in America for the 2027 class descended on IMG Academy in South Florida over the weekend for Under Armour's annual Future 50 event. On Saturday, prospects in attendance hit the fields. 247Sports was on hand and left impressed with the Louisiana contingent.
The action got started in the morning with a two-hour workout that featured positional drills and some 1-on-1 competition before a 7-on-7 game and additional 1-on-1 work for the big men took place during the evening hours. 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins and his team formed a top 10 and it included four guys from The Boot.
(3) QB - Elijah Haven
The No. 1 prospect in the cycle for 247Sports was an instant eye-catcher at 6-foot-5, 215 pounds. He might have an elbow-up release, but that doesn't impact his touch as he delivered some absolute dimes to the deeper third. A two-year starter at Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham School, the hulking Haven has posted a 22-4 record at the varsity level while accounting for 6,864 yards of offense and 103 touchdowns. He's in no hurry to make a commitment but mentioned that both Michigan and Florida are making him feel wanted.
(6) EDGE - Zyron Forstall
If Forstall went through positional drills at the NFL Scouting Combine next year he would have evaluators drooling. His footwork and change-of-direction skills were that good Saturday morning. Forstall needs to find a little more urgency and learn how to win with power, but his ability to redirect and retrace is special for his age. As a junior, Forstall was credited with 13 sacks and four forced fumbles at New Orleans Jesuit. Texas, Georgia, Florida and USC are some of his more recent offers.
(7) WR - Easton Royal
Royal won the fastest man competition, edging Merrideth with an unofficial 4.29-second effort in the 40-yard dash. That would have topped the showcase's three previous winners – Vance Spafford (4.35), Harlem Berry (4.37) and Dylan Edwards (4.39). A track star at New Orleans Brother Martin, not many can attack vertically like Royal with his speed. He was one of the more productive pass catchers during the 7-on-7 game and was able to race past multiple defenders down the sidelines for a long touchdown.
(8) QB - Peyton Houston
One of the most sought-after signal-callers in the class, Houston showed why he's a wanted man at USC, Notre Dame, Miami and plenty of other places as he fired tight and accurate spirals to all three levels. We had him going 12 of 14 passing for 125 yards and three touchdowns during the 7-on-7 game. Houston must figure out when and how to dial back the pace, but he's got the arm talent to be a high-volume passer in college. He threw for 4,480 yards last fall at Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian Academy.

BK and Sloan really needs to get to work on this kid and make him feel wanted at LSU. It would definitely be a bad look for the Tigers if we lose the #1 prospect and #1 QB from our own backyard to Michigan or f'ing Florida. GET TO WORK FELLAS!!!!!

Yeah. I’d hate the optics of Michigan swiping back the nations #1 and keeping him at home, only to follow up with taking the #1 again. Another qb. From here.

I seriously doubt that FL and Michigan are showing him more love. Maybe more $$, but nothing else.

Some of you don’t get how recruiting works anymore. Of course, Haven didn’t say LSU. He is from BR and everyone just assumes. So he is going to name other schools and boost that money up and play the game.
If some of you truly think Joe Sloan is not constantly calling this guy and speaking to him, then I have no idea what to tell you.

Sounds good, but I'd "settle" for Houston. The limited amount I've seen and heard, sky's the limit

I agree on Houston, but it seems he's linked pretty heavily with Lincoln Riley.
