not even one committed to LSU from this list. very concerning. its not like we are deep at this position.
hard to fathom these numbers based on LSU's history of DL recruiting.
Injuries and depth are just one reason why the DL struggled the last 3-4 games.
The starters played 85% of the snaps because we had no reliable backups.
2023 top 50 DL
Clem - 4 of the top 13 (3, 5, 11, 13)
ALA - 4 of the top 24 (2, 7, 17, 24)
FLA - 5 of the top 41 (6, 21, 30, 31, 41)
tOSU - 3 of the top 38 (8, 36, 38)
TCU - 3 of the top 50 (15, 35, 50)
ORE - 3 of the top 40 (29, 37, 40)
LSU - 0 of the top 100

LSU DL commits by year
2016 - 8
2017 - 5
2018 - 7
2019 - 4
2020 - 5
2021 - 4
2022 - 3
2023 - ??? LSU will need a min. of 3 from the portal to secure depth

Since when is it just ok for LSU to not sign DLman in a class and when it’s called out for what it is this site starts trying to cover it up? If this were Les Miles or Orgeron, this site would be up in arms about us not even sniffing a DL recruit in this cycle. It’s not going to be alright and I don’t see where these recruits HAVE to be from the same state to commit to a school. Masson Smith had a pretty bad injury if I’m not mistaken. We had zero depth THIS season, next season will be much worse. I’m completely aware that we have the portal to lean back on but to lean on the portal for at least 3 to 4 quality prospects, more next year is definitely concerning and we should be discussing it. Why aren’t we recruiting this position much more heavily and why can’t LSU sign the top DL prospects in the region or country? We should be doing that. I’m hoping that it’s just a relationship building time issue or they have already identified guys in the portal with at least 2 years to play. It sure doesn’t look very good for a team like LSU not to be named next to one of the better DL prospects in the country two seasons in a row. At some point we need to be pushing Clemson, Auburn, Bama, Florida, A&M, Texas, Georgia, Florida and Ohio state out of their own area for some of these guys. We can’t just let them pile them up on their rosters. We need to get in there and tell them their plans for them aren’t to their benefit. At LSU you can start tomorrow and help us build what the school who’s offering already has build and will use you only to bolster that number and keep us out.
Man, if you want to be pissed off about things that you have no control over and things that more than likely have no effect on your life, I don’t know what to tell you.
This is a great class so far, especially if we get Ricks. CBK can and will pull experienced and talented DTs from the portal. No reason to freak out.

I think that the fact that we haven't offered Bourda shows that we haven't reached panic mode yet.

LSU has 3 DTs on that roster as of now will be playing next year and each of those 3 are all-sec and some potentially all-americans. It's a hard sell to come here to play immediately to HS guys. They'll get depth there in the portal if they can convince a good DT he'll be in the double rotation so effectively like a starter. Womack can probably slide inside if they need him too.
Guillory has been a disappointment and Langston has not transferred. Maybe they feel confident both these guys can fill the void next year. They might also be planning to slide someone to the inside. Let BK do his thing. He knows where the holes are.

Let’s not forget that we moved Fitz West to the D Line late this year.

The biggest hole in this class is clearly DT. That is why Roy is the most important player currently on the roster to re-recruit.
I would feel much better with a trio of Smith, Roy, and Wingo in '23.
There really is no good excuse for whiffing on high school recruits at DT, but that is where we currently are.

Portal DT options:
247 Transfer DTs
Not to get too hung up on rankings, but there's UNC 5 star:
Keeshawn Silver 247
6'5 315 very agile for his size

class of 2021 as LSU offered. He was a 5-star and the #6 DL in the class.
mother died when he was a young child, and he was raised by his grandmother - likely reason why he stayed close to home at UNC.
2021 - 3 games, 1 tackle
2022 - 3 games, 3 tackles
Silver struggled with injuries and saw limited time as a reserve DL. I'm sure he's frustrated with his lack of PT and wants to see the field. NIL will likely factor into his decision.

Completely agree. Cain seemed to have it rolling over the summer, but losing Mickens and Reed were a big blow. Can’t figure out how a guy as respected as he is can’t land a single high school DT.

I agree 100% , especially after both were Fong'd to other schools with less than 30 days before ESD on 12/21.
Mickens - from Indy and visited LSU on 6/10/22 which is an eternity in recruiting. Visited tOSU on 11/25 and decided to stay close to home.
Reed - AUB likely offered this kid crazy NIL $$$ and he was sold, even after the clusterfk of firing their HC.

Not to mention that Mickens’ father passed away early this year. Staying closer to home worked out better for his family.

If I'm Kelly I'm trying to gage the interest of one of the current A&M DLs from the 2022 class. Maybe Lucas is looking for a way out. He would play significant time and then start in 2024 before heading to the draft. Nolen and Stewart will be starters in front of him in the same class.

Has anyone alerted Coach Kelly? I mean this is some bullshite

There will be an even bigger amount after spring in the portal. You guys are freaking out over nothing. Wait until the playoff teams are done more will transfer out after those winning teams are done too.

I’ll call Coach Kelly now and let him know he isn’t aligned with the geniuses of the Recruiting Board.
