I know we have a long way before the Class of 2014 but I found these interesting comments on an ESPN Insider article related to Gerald Willis and Florida...so I decided to share some of it

quote:

"It really don't matter if I go far from home," Willis said. "I just know that I have a home to come home to. My brother proved that he wasn't just going to stay at home. He could have stayed at home, but he thought he could go further if he went to Alabama. So I'm going to follow in my brother's footsteps. I might stay at home or I might go somewhere. I just don't know."

quote:

"My trip to Gainesville that was like the best college trip I have taken so far," Willis said. "Coach Derek Lewis, the tight ends coach, he's from New Orleans. I relate to him. Their D-line coach is way different than the Alabama and LSU D-line coaches. I just relate real good with him. Coach [Will] Muschamp he is a real honest and telling me that they will recruit me as an end.

quote:

"I just feel comfortable with the staff and they will teach me a lot of things. Coach [Bryant] Young isn't the type of coach that will yell and scream at me, he will come to me and talk to me and tell me what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong. That's the reason it was my best college visit so far."

quote:

"They are recruiting me as a defensive end," Willis said. "They told me that the reason they are recruiting me so hard and they want me to be a Gator is because the two guys they have at end are more inside guys. They really don't have a speed rusher. He [Muschamp] was like, 'You already have D-end size, you have the frame to be a D-end. You have the speed and the agility to play early.' They say I have the ability to be a true freshman and come off the bench. They said, 'I will not have you sit on the bench if you come here as a D-end.' "

quote:

"I'll probably go visit Alabama and see my brother," Willis said. "I'll probably go to LSU and maybe Miami by the end of the summer."

I haven't followed 2014 recruits very much but I have a bad feeling about this kid.

Meh. If we land the ends we're after this yr, then it's no big deal.

Momma has changed her tune big time...

What momma wants, momma gets.

Gerald will play with his brother at Alabama. He is not coming here.

As the previous poster stated, if we get the ends we are after this year, I am not sure it matters

An elite safety and a good DE leaving the state shouldn't worry LSU fans..

LSU did all it could do on the LC situation. It is what it is. Gerald is the brother of a kid that decided to go elsewhere. What are you going to do?....

I agree that an elite safety and very good DE shouldn't want to leave the state but they will. Gerald will watch his brother play at Alabama multiple times over the next two years and will be very comfortable there...

I am starting to get the feeling that some of the big in state recruits enjoy holding the LSU fans in the state in suspense over their recruitment.

It shouldn't, considering the fact that we might get an elite end from Texas this yr.

What bothers me is that why our kids in La, even would consider going OOS to help another State bring home a Championship I think all of our negative fan base that we have shown here at LSU have a lot to do with it but that's my opinion Gerald Willis said in a interview that he loves LSU and he's going to shop around for the best situation for him and we have to respect that. Hopefully Coach Frank Wilson and Coach Brick Haley will out recruit everybody else and keep our talent here in La and by the way this kid is a phenomenal athlete and hopefully we as LSU fans can encourage our future studs with positive advise and encouragement to stay here in the boot and throw our L's up and represent La. Good luck to you Gerald Willis enjoy your recruitment and make decision for u and not what your brother did good luck and geaux LSU.

Gerald lives with his Dad, Gerald Willis Sr and by all accounts is very close with his Pops. It is a known fact that Sr has an incredible relationship with the coaching staff at LSU and some even believe LSU leads due to this.

Regardless, it looks like a battle between Florida, LSU, and Bama. Of course, like everyone else I like to keep kids instate, but this isn't the early 2000's when Saban was building this program and needed to do so through internal resources. This program is built and now a National Powerhouse program. I like LSU's philosophy. Go after the top instate guys and if we lose out, we go get a National prospect you have also been targeting. See Kwon Alexander and Corey Thompson last year.

Does it bother you that almost half our class is from OOS? Does it upset you that one of the best O-linemen from Illinois is going to LA.. One of the top QBs in Cali is coming to LA...

But it's a one sided affair, it's cool if they come here right?

I can understand where Soulja is coming from but all kids will not have state pride. That's the reason LSU signs 80% of instate offers, not 100.

No it doesn't bother me but I know we have talent here as well let's get our kids then go after OOS kids if we have any offers left but I feel where your coming from get best available I guess

After talking with Jaluke about Willis, it is very clear that he has a very long way to go when it comes to maturity and decision making. Very immature premadonna type as of right now. Be ready for a circus like recruitment. Thankfully due to his brother, I will not get wrapped up in this one. Everyone should let whatever this kid says go in one ear and out the other until Feb 2014.
