I know DD isn't the best source for things but it seems he and many others think we sign a full class or at least very close to a full class for 2011. We're sitting at 17 commits and IMO we shouldn't need to be signing much over 20 if over 20 at all. We will be losing only 10 scholarship seniors and are already over the 85 limit so we have to ask a couple guys for the 2010 class to greyshirt or walk on. Patrick Peterson is the only junior with the ability to turn pro after this season, so it looks like we'll only be losing 11 scholarship guys after this season outside of attrition.

If these hold true, that means we'd need to lose 14 scholarship guys to attrition between now and this time next year if we want to sign a full 25 man class. This is not counting the 2 2010 guys who need to greyshirt/walk on (I guess Fordham is already 1) to make it to 25 this year. If we only signed 20 we'd need to lose 9 scholarship guys which is still high but not out of sight. We seem to average close to 9 anyways year to year.

IMO I think we sign, at most, 22 guys. I think we also lose 1 guy who's currently committed to us...who that may be, I do not know, but usually we have a guy decommit every class, so I'm sure this one will be no different.

22-23 is the number I've seen thrown out there on pay sites.

Im guessing Fordham will be one of the 85 going into next year. Unless they expect him to pay his own way ( walk on ) his whole career. If thats the case why he signed a LOI

I'm sure he'll be on scholarship next year. He was our only center recruit for 2010 and we didn't recruit a center in 2009 or this year either. It's just obviously clear he was going to redshirt this year anyways as he's way too small to play OL right now.

I asked this question before, but do you think we are Redshirting too many players year and year out?..

Ideally, with strong recruiting classes, we should redshirt entire classes. That way, guys get a year to learn, to get bigger and stronger and faster and be ready to compete and give 4 strong years. We do not have that luxury yet, but that's the way to build a dynasty.

I disagree. I just feel only QB,DL,OL should be redshirted. Ex. How many redshirt Jr's are there currently on the LSU roster. That are not QB,DL,OL, that they currently couldnt live without next year?

Remember this in only in regards to the context of the 85 scholarship/attrition/25 enrolling questions..

It's probably because WR, RB, LB, CB and S get time on special teams alot of the time in their freshman year to gain some experience.

As of today, I believe we are at 80 true schollies for the 2010 team. They will ultimately be back up to 85 by giving some to Graf and similar players one yr schollies. You lose the 9 sr's plus PP and you are 70 players in January - needing 10 attrition candidates. While that seems like a lot, that has become the norm.

If Allen is permeantly gone (I can't figure that one out), we have had nine over the past several months. And that doesn't include the greyshirts.

wilson is the recruiting coordinator and is orgeron's protege. I say he pushes the envelope all the way to 25.

Then why did we ask 2 guys to greyshirt?

The greyshirts are related to the 25 per class rule - not the 85 total rule.

I would hope we'd take a full class.
