2 smaller school dbs

Both torrie cox at Ohio and Peter manuma at Hawaii were freshman all Americans last year. Based off stats they both seem to be having another successful year.
Don’t know what they make nil wise but chances of them trying out the portal could be there. Are these types of players we could use immediately?

The portal is weird.
We felt this way about these three guys:
Coleman
Fiske
Cypress
They all went to fsu.
It is not as easy as, hey, we really suck at db and you are a shoo in for starter.
Other teams want and pay for them too.

We need to focus getting some 5 star recruits not these kids. Chesnut was great at Syracuse and awful in the sec

Speights and chestnut were all conference and both look small and slow out there. Need to pay $$$ for stud high school kids not continue to try to get transfers to fix our issues

Y’all are fricken LSU! Why the hell would you build a roster off of the portal. La, Miss and Tx are loaded with DBs. It’s not that difficult for LSU to land top tier talent.

Absolutely not. This getting players out of the portal that were good at these small schools need to end. This is killing LSU because these types of players you mention just can’t compete with SEC talent and speed.

I can guarantee you that BK would much rather get studs from high school at defensive back than go to the smaller schools. When you don’t get the top defensive back in the last three classes from Louisiana, that’s going to hurt you. BK has said numerous times that he does not want to go this route... But you’ve got to have bodies, and obviously recruit much much harder that position.

It's been out of necessity the last couple years. We should be reaching a point that it's no longer necessary but something is holding back the DBs.
In the past, a guy like Welch would have come in and played a ton as a freshman and been coached up and ready to start as a sophomore.
It's happening across all sports with the portal but so many coaches talk about how there is no substitute for experience, but then don't give their own recruited freshmen the opportunity to get any experience. It's a tacit admission that they either think they can't develop a guy or that someone else can develop guys better, in my opinion.
It sucks, but it's not going anywhere.

Once here, they are coached by an asst special teams coach that has never coached cb’s according to his bio. Need a better reason to come here.
