no doubt better than any Ga city-- the only cities you would even compare it to are Atlanta and Savannah. I mean c'mon. atlanta is a loose collection of so-so hoods with a crappy downtown, and then the rest is just suburb hell. although it is better for stuff you don't find in a lot of cities, the city-qua-city aspect is severely lacking. Savannah is quaint enough, but it's New Orleans super ultra lite.

but overall Ga v. Louisiana, i have to go with ga. the mountains and proximity to even better mountains in NC/TN have to trump. + still ez 5.5-6 hr drive from Atl to best gulf beaches.

The food issue isn't debatable or subjective. Have been to most states in the US with an open mind and the food comparison is no contest. I am no chef but actually it's kind of mind boggling to me why there is such a difference.

You serious, Clark?

You do realize that not everyone likes the cuisine in Louisiana, right? You do realize that different people have different tastes, right? You do realize that there is great food made all over the USA, and gasp, many (perhaps most) people prefer it over Louisiana food, right?

Yea, the food argument is debatable and subjective, especially in this day and age when transportation and refrigeration technology advances allow all styles of food to be be prepared anywhere.

Yeah, I love getting good Louisiana food when I come to visit...but not like I don't have access to amazing food here.

And to those that still live in LA, not like you are eating jambalaya and red beans and rice every single day either. You choose to eat other cuisine. Many people in LA seem to LOVE mexican food...yet yall are missing out on the really good authentic mexican food.

well, if this site is any indication, all New Orleanians eat at one of Commander's, Arnaud's, Tujague's, Antoine's, or Galatoire's on a daily basis

right??

And that's what is surprising. Although in this day and age similar food can be prepared anywhere, in the vast majority of places it simply doesn't taste the same. If you don't like good Louisiana seafood, your taste buds are messed up.

FWIW, I love Louisiana food and it's one of the things I miss most about back home, but the pull is not strong enough to bring me back there.

Not many places have fresh seafood available like we do. Not everyone is referring to cajun or Creole food when they mention the food down here.

Same here. I'm living a much healthier lifestyle by NOT living back in LA.

And I get that and love a lot of the outdoor stuff of other parts of the country with a more reasonable climate but I do think the food here is the real deal.

I am a trained chef in my own right, although retired and now doing a learned profession. Long story short, while I like those places when I am in NO, I can do a lot of those dishes in my kitchen in central LA for a lot cheaper.

Much shorter to the Atlantic. Better waves.

It's close to 5 hours from BR to the "best" Gulf beaches. Mississippi doesn't count.

True

the rest is just suburb hell

If NOLA had suburbs it would be the same. That's the fact of city growth.

Atlanta ... is better for stuff you don't find in a lot of cities,

I'm not sure what you would mean about this. I'm not sure what is here that is not in most cities.

There are 6mill people here. To compare Atlanta and NOLA is not even relevant because the size difference is huge. And to compare NOLA to Savannah is the same. The size difference makes the comparison baseless.

I moved to Ga from Thibodaux in '87 and have lived in North Ga ever since. If I had not met my wife here whos family is here in Atlanta area I would have moved a long time ago. I live on Lake Lanier which is about an hour north of Atl.

Atl cant hold candle to NOLA. There is no culture here other than strong African American presence. Not being racist just calling it like it is. Same African Am culture in NOLA but alot of other flavors as well. Atlanta is full of transients. The down town area has a couple of nice spots but nothing unique like NOLA.

Hurricanes or Tornados? Get alot of tornados here and they are a pain in the arse and deadly.
