Anyone have recommendations on this? Brands? Types? Etc…

Our living room has west facing windows and most of the trees that used to block afternoon sun are gone.

We’re looking to reduce heat transfer as well as block uv to keep floors from fading.

Depending on your trashy level, nothing tops aluminum foil. I’d go with any type of ceramic window tint tho.

One thing to consider - if you have low-E windows, most of them have 5-10 year manufacturer warranties and Putting film will void your warranty. May wanna also look into exterior screens if that works with the “look” of your house. screens are gonna be way more effective at keeping out heat

I hadn’t heard of ceramic. Checking it out.

The windows are older and nothing fancy and screens aren’t really what we’re looking for.

In a year or two we’re going to build an outdoor covered deck that will shade them, but in the interim looking for something to help.

Low-E tint? I’ve considered for a commercial building. The issue is I don’t know if it works well enough to justify the cost.

You might want to look into this…

quote:

Beyond heat reduction, installing window film can offer financial incentives for businesses. The recently passed Inflation Reduction Act made it so properties can gain tax credits for reducing emissions of Greenhouse Gasses and Hydrofluorocarbons. Utility companies in some cities even rebate the installation of window film by as much as 50% — making window film a clear financial choice.

How old are your windows? We had west-facing windows with tinted film for years (~15 year old windows). Last year we had them all replaced. No tint. It made a huge difference.

Gila makes various film tints from 70 to 99%. Lowes, HD, and Amazon carry them.

Was thinking about this the other day ....are you self installing or have some one install it for you?

Are there any recommendations for a company to install ?

TIA

I’ve used Solar Screen Outlet. Shades work well.

I'm pondering the same thing and from the research I've done I landed on this one before seeking real world reviews.
