Im buying a new home that has a sunny half of the yard and a moderately shaded half of the yard (on either side of the house). I have not had a chance to really look at it so my apologies for the lack of information.

The neighborhood yards are Bermuda, assuming thats what the developer put in. A quick glance of this yard and I can see some of the bremuda but it mostly looks like other grasses (maybe weeds) have dominated the coverage.

I will not have the time to kill all off and reseed or re sod. Whats the best way to reintroduce grass? Is there a way to over seed on the existing and wait for it to take over?

Sorry to hijack the thread.

If it's got Bermuda (and you want to keep the Bermuda) I would order a bottle of Celsius and spray the yard. Wait about 4-6 weeks then spray the other half. It will kill everything but the turfgrass. After the second spray, you could also overseed it.

I did this method on my front yard and my BIL has done it on his whole lot and its been effective.

Basically, you need to kill off the weeds and fertilize & water the crap out of the bermuda. I would not overseed bermuda because chances are you will end up with a different type of bermuda which could be a different shade green. Plus, bermuda is excellent at spreading and filling in so overseeding would not be needed.

This will work well for the sunny side. If the other side is shady, good luck. You will probably have to do something else there like a shade tolerant type of Zoysia or tall fescue.

I have bermuda. MSMA will kill most other grasses and not hurt bermuda.

Yes, MSMA is no longer labeled for residential use.

In all honesty Celsius WG has had better results that MSMA. At least on my end anyways.

Living in N. Alabama we are stuck (by the builder) with some Bermuda Hybrid. Might be Tifway 419 or something. Supposed to be drought resistant. bullshite. That stuff needs water like it wants to live in a swamp. This year it's been great with all the raid we've had...best looking lawn of my 5 years living there. Problem is it takes so much fertilizer and chemicals to keep the trash out. It just doesn't get thick enough to choke that crap out.

Dallisgrass is my #1 enemy and #2 is Annua Poa in the early season.

I have a chem guy for the front yard but the #3 culprit nut grass (nutsedge) is coming up here and there.

Living in SWLA...we had St Aug...once that stuff got going...no weeds could take root...it was thick and tight. Took a sharp shovel to cut it though if you were digging.

I bought a bottle for ~$90ish. But keep in mind a 10oz bottle makes like 80-100 gallons depending on the mix rate you use.

I just checked my inbox it was $99.99 when I ordered last year. Looks like the price has gone up a little bit.

Gotcha, yeah that was still the cheapest one I could find when I looked earlier.
