These little frickers destroyed my grass in three days. I sprayed and the grass started to recover only for them to come back after Laura and destroy shite again. I was out of town for a few days and drove up to a brown lawn.

Sod worms are terrible this year. Maybe the warm winter? Idk
If I had to guess the warm winter and comparatively mild and wet summer?
Yeah first time I have had trouble worth treating, been living in the same place for 15 years. They have laid waste to my backyard in 1-2 weeks. The moths were flying when I mowed today. About 40% of the backyard is brown.
I just applied Talstar granules 3 months ago for my bi-annual application to keep ants and fleas at bay. So that isn't a good preventative measure for sod webworms based on my experience.
Maybe the liquid Bifen Talstar is effective against these things but I can assure you the granules will not prevent them.
I got some ready to spray bottles from Lowes today so I could at least take action. It listed sod webworms as one of the pests it controls. We'll see what happens.

This thread discourages me. I’ve too tried Talstar (bifenthrin) and suffered through their resurgence shortly thereafter much as many of you have. There have been a couple of other more viable solutions mentioned in this thread.
As I stated earlier, last year I started using Anderson’s Duocide and at the first sign of chewed blades I put that down and it immediately stops them. I’ve already seen and done that once this summer and since then the moths have been everywhere. But my grass is looking great.
If I see another chewed blade I’ll hit them again with the Anderson’s. Ignore the moths. Just watch for initial damage and have it ready to go immediately. That’s been working for me. Give it a try?

Featuring carbaryl and bifenthrin, DuoCide is a broad-spectrum insecticide designed for the preventative and curative treatment of feeding insects, including white grubs, European crane fly, chinch bugs, sod webworm, and many more!
Perfect for late-summer applications, DuoCide works as a rescue product for those who may have missed the early-summer application window.
What Sets DuoCide Apart?
Unlike most insecticide products on the market today, which force applicators to choose between controlling surface OR sub-surface insects, DuoCide represents the only solution designed to suppress insects both above AND below the surface.
Dispersing Granule (DG) Technology
Unlike other insecticide products featuring corncob carriers, which take much longer to breakdown, DuoCide is formulated on The Andersons’ DGPro® dispersing granule carrier. With DG Technology, particles are more rapidly and efficiently broken down. Upon contact with water, each DG granule disperses into thousands of microparticles that move through the turf canopy into the root zone. This level of dispersibility delivers precise insecticide delivery while eliminating issues associated with runoff and nutrient loss.

I don’t know why I didn’t consider this before, but I realized yesterday when I spray talstar or any liquid misted bug killer you are basically spraying the top of the grass. Well my st Aug is growing 1-2 inches a week, so every weekend I’m cutting off all the damn bug spray. So in order to diligintly kill sod web worms you gotta spray after every cut for 2-3 weeks.
I put out some Spectracide Triazicide granules out 10 days or so ago and yesterday when I mowed moths were everywhere. My grass was growing back so I think it killed the worms.
