What should I expect $ to renovate an abandoned home

Structure is solid. 1900 square feet.
Needs all new drywall. Electrical. And a'll running water. Existing drains are good.
Insulation is crap. Outside is all vinyl which is in good shape. Behind that is a painted compressed paneling. No moisture barrier or insulation.
Twin AC systems are junk.
I'm deciding cost wise between building a new 1900+ square foot home and demoing this one. Or doing a full renovation.

Depends on finishes and structural changes. If you want to remove a load bearing wall to open up the floor plan it gets expensive. It also depends on what you find when you open up the walls. You can say the structure is solid but until you open it up you can't say for sure.

Probably double that... I spent probably 70-80k repairing my post flood home that was about 2k square feet

I’m doing one right now about that size. I’ll be all in 38k. Roof and windows were good, everything else was trashed. Comps in area are 160/ft though and this one is looking

The sheetrock in one room near a screen door has surface mildew and mold from being closed up. More musty than anything.
I've knocked out a section of sheetrock on almost every wall and the structure is A+
The issue is an upstairs portion that would likely require a complete removal or redesign.

speaking of the surface mold, what can be done about that? I was looking at a 3/2 the other day that needs to be gutted and it the ceilings had surface mold on it.. Little green spots everywhere from being closed up.

Depends on a lot of factors but you are going to be in for 70k at least.
But It’s going to be more much expensive to demo and rebuild. More than double.

Gutted a 1000 sq. ft. house. Tore out sheet rock throughout. Flooring in the bathroom. All new electrical from the box to outlets. All new plumbing plus tub, toilet sink and vanity. Replaced everything in the kitchen with new appliances and washer and dryer. The flooring was oak and refinished and put two coats of clear coat on it. All new lighting throughout including ceiling fans. Did most of the demo myself and painted the exterior and interior myself. Also did most of the wiring except what by law a licensed electrician had to do. Cost was somewhere between $30,000.00 to $35,000.00. Bought the house for 20,000.00 back in the early 90's and now worth over 100,000.00.
