1 oz/ acre MSM plus 1 pint/ a Trimec Southern. 3 days after mowing. Do not use any other Trimec formulation. I don’t use any surfactant. I use a pull type sprayer with 3 flat fan tips and use 12 gals water per acre. Be sure and don’t scalp St Augustine it’s extremely competitive if you give it a chance

does manual removal of it do any good? After work yesterday I spent about an hour in the yard pulling up the VBW. It's pretty therapeutic after a rough day. My st aug has just recovered from the last 2 celsius applications so I'm hesitant to apply again. I'm about to reapply on my centipede to get rid of some dove weed.

Only temporarily as an aesthetic as VBW has underground rhizomes and underground seeds, as well above stolons and above ground seeds to reproduce.

In addition to Celsius you can rotate MSM Turf (metsulfuron methyl) (also causes temporary yellowing of turf) and when temperature drops to low 80’s/70s Fertilome Weed Free Zone (Trimec + Carfentrazone), both which are also effective on VBW. And of course adding surfactant to spray solutions when using any of the three.

How low does the temp need to be for this? I'll be spraying the neighbor's yard as well. Her lawn is 50% VBW right now so she is letting me kill hers to help me out since it's spreading in from her.

No temperature restriction on Celsius or MSM Turf in this heat, but you should not use Weed Free Zone above temperatures of 85 F.

Hi Yield Spreader/Sticker - available just about everywhere but the big box stores. Used it for years.

But since I buy Lesco fertilizers, etc. from Site One Landscape Supply which is about 10 min or so my residence, last year I decided to buy a gallon of Lesco 90/10 non-ionic surfactant - maybe $25 as I recall - will likely last me 3 or 4 years.

1/8 teaspoon (0.5 grams) per 1 or 2 gallons of water per 1000 sq ft of lawn.

If spot spraying individual clumps of VBW interspersed with lawn grass then 1/8 teaspoon per gallon of water. Plus 2 teaspoons of surfactant per gallon of water in the mix.

Respray in 3 to 4 weeks if needed, which is usually the case with mature VBW producing white flowers.

It is an invasive perennial. Right now, mid Sept to Mid Oct, is the ideal timing to apply glyphosate at about a 5% solution (6.4 oz per gallon mix). Take a latex glove and wipe it on the foliage if worried about injuring turf. If it has completely taken out the turf in spots, spray it on those areas carefully. Then as others have said multiple applications of MSM Turf during growing season. Perennials change from moving carbohydrates toward growing points to storage organs for survival thru winter. Therefore you get a more complete long term kill. It may take several falls to accomplish this, along with the summer herbicide programs.

You can order a set of 5 plastic 1/8 teaspoons for $9 from Amazon, or 2 stainless steel ones for $8, but I’m pretty sure you can pick one up, as a set of measuring spoons, at WalMart for probably less than $5. The way I misplace items, I like keeping spares.

Or alternatively you can buy a mini digital kitchen/jewelers scale from Amazon ($15) and weigh it out - 0.5 grams.
