I am looking to put 2 small to med-small trees in my back yard to go where my palm trees once were. Evergreen is preferred as it will be about 15 ft from my pool. I was thinking about the holly variety like the eagleston, but apparently the can be toxic to my dogs. Any suggestions for a tree similar. Looking for a tree that will get about 15ft tall or so. There is no pool plumbing where these will go. Zone 9. TIA

been pretty happy with how the Vitex trees i got for free
Lost the leaves this winter after the snow but were holding holding on to them before that. In more mild winters it might be ever green.
Planted late last June

Not sure your zone, but I love my Nellie Stevens hollies that line my perimeter fence. Most people trim them like a big hedge, but I have two in the front of my house trimmed like trees with trunk showing. Look great and easy to take care of once they're rooted.

Ilex x attenuata 'Savannah holly' is another native that does well as a tree in S. La.
But, I think the berries of any holly can be toxic to dogs. I've never had an issue. I guess none of my dogs was into red berries.

Definitely. I just planted about 12 of those I had purchased on sale to use as natural hedge on my property.
